Update from Finland - 11/01/18 09:31 PM

Hi again
Last year we had a massive engine failure when the crank broke and took a lot of other stuff with it, I found a 3.8 stroke crank and got the block and heads fixed, the "new" engine worked very good and the added torque really got the car moving, had some adjusting to do and still have but we managed a 8.42 at a little over 160 with a really good 1.20 60 ft
I have to say I'm very pleased with how it worked out grin

Good job 👍🏻😎

Harder to "hit" converter with shorter stoke stuff you had before.

I am sure with some more working on it it will go faster yet 💪🏻

Maybe one day we can do a new set of heads for the top of it 😜

Especially when you think about doing that any where else than here in the home of drag racing work
I had a guy in Finland send me a picture of one of my old race cars sitting in a old chicken coupe looking building several years ago, it was a original 1963 Plymouth two door hard top Max Wedge car, not sure if it was a 415 HP or 425 HP. Medium dark blue metallic paint.
Mafo, do you know any thing about that car or the owners? Are they racing it? It had a mild steel 12 point cage and a Dana 70 rear end with 5.13 gears in it mounted on Mopar SS leaf springs moved into the rear sub frames with full steel wheel tubs wrench
It was my first halfway serious bracket car grin

Re: Update from Finland - 11/03/18 10:01 AM

Haha, bigdad, that's pretty good, but I remember you living in Viborg, as we all know Viborg was a city in Finland until the bloody russians took it from us in 1944...
and Cab you are almost right, 6% of the finnish population speak swedish, I am one of them up

About the MW cars, the '63 Plymouth is under work, being restaured. Dvoraks old car is in the same condition as it used to be when Dvorak owned it, but without engine, it blew up. I believe it was the first 10 sec stocker? (Altitude corrected ET)

Re: Update from Finland - 11/10/18 07:37 PM

Bobby DeArmand was the first legal NHRA A/SA to run altitude corrected 9.99 at Boise, ID back a long time ago up
A friend of mine was at that race trying to be the first A/SA to run in the nines also, my old NHRA 1963 Plymouth Belevedere two door sedan 63 415 HP M.W. car was there trying to do the same thing.

Re: Update from Finland - 11/12/18 07:26 AM

Yes, but this I believe was the first Stocker to run an altitude corrected 10 sec ET. I do not know who did the first 10 sec "real" ET, but one of the first was Jim Waldo in his 427 fairlane, that car is also in Finland.

Re: Update from Finland - 11/12/18 09:23 AM

Jyrki, you may be correct as far as the "first" altitude corrected car to run in the 10s but that would have been a long time ago, way before the race I'm talking about on those guys trying to be the first NHRA legal car to set the A/SA record in the nines at Boise, ID blush
Dan Dvorak had a number of different M.W. NHRA legal cars that he raced over the years, he was fast but he wasn't always legal all the time whistling Along with a lot of the other east coast racers runaway
I could tell you all kinds of stories about NHRA racers and the many different ways to push and bend the rules work
There was one well known west coast Mopar M.W. Super Stock racer told me when I first started racing in stock in NHRA on pushing and bending the rules, he told me it ain't cheating unless you get caught and convicted shock shruggy
Jim Waldo started racing his Ford the same year I started racing my 1970 Hemi Cuda in A/S, I ran under the minimum NHRA A/S record at the 1975 Winternationals, it was 11.81 and my car ran 11.79 on the third pass boogie grin I ended up getting toss out in the barn during tear down for having a glass beaded intake manifold whiney realcrazy Live and learn shruggy
Jim Waldo was in Division 6, NHRA decided to lower the minimum record to 11.52 after the Winternationals and Jim set the record at 11.49 ET around 115.+ MPH at the first division 6 race in May of that year, he reset it four more times that year before the World Finals at Ontario, CA that year shock
Back then you got 100 extra division points towards the division championship if you set both the ET and MPH record at the same time, which he did all five times thumbs He was and is a great guy along as well being a great drag racer bow His cars always flew thumbs

Re: Update from Finland - 11/12/18 11:41 AM

In the late 80's both Waldo and Dvorak run their old cars in Finland tin the midsummer race. Dan blew the engine up in the qualification and Jim advanced in to semifinals, blew a head gasket and couldn't make it in time. Here is a video with Jims interwiev https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ_f0Uc4hxM
Maybe even Mafo was driving there?
