Pulled the Dana cover to inspect the carnage - 10/15/18 12:56 PM
A hell of a lot of racket for one piece. Cheapy street gear. About 125 passes.

Not that they are cheap. Street gears are more brittle than race gears. Just like chrome sockets and impact sockets.

Dont take much to make a mess of things - at least you found it before it decided to destroy everthing and hurt the transmission!

Seeing the lines inside on that tooth tells me it was defective since it was made
What ratio?

Based on that pic, I'm surprised it didn't fail on the first pass.

I got lucky once as well. In a final round, I heard "POP" over all the noise of the car launching. I stayed in it and won the race. Sure enough, that one "pop" was one tooth off of an 8 3/4 gear. I always wondered if that standard 4.86 gear was saved from stripping more teeth because they were REM'ed and cryo'ed. But there was another one that did take out enough teeth to abort the run and hurt the trans.

It was a 4.30. Only one I found that fit a 3 series spool. US Gear makes a 4.30 pro-gear using 9310 material instead of 8620. It will require a 5 series spool.

The Duster would get about 600 passes out of our street ring and pinion before it started eating itself. We have a pro gear in the Daytona.
