I hurt a piston like yours when I was running a 572 BBC injected on methanol, no blower. The ring land was too close to the top and I ran it too lean and too much timing.
This piston was in a 451" screw blown brad anderson hemi motor. It was early on in my TAD days and was caused by the fuel shutoff going closed from Gs in the middle of the run. After this we always taped the fuel shutoff open with a small piece of tape to keep it open and I could still reach up pull it closed at the end of the run.
It torched the sleeve, the block deck, the head, the trans blanket, the racepak wiring, the parachute, the rear part of the paint job and much more.
I took the head off on the way home from the track in the trailer while my crew drove the truck on a Sunday night. I sent the head to BAE next day air on Monday morning and they repaired it on Tuesday and sent it back to me on a Weds. I took the block to Indy Cly head and had the block welded and resurfaced while I waited. I removed the sleeves and installed used ones that I had. I only had one motor then and put the motor back together and in the dragster on a Weds night and then drove to a track on Thurs and was ready to race on that Friday. I qualified to race that weekend. That in it's self was a victory.
Actually I built the motor and my crew put it back into the dragster on that WEDs night while I did other things to the car. I had 3 guys helping me then.
I have done all kinds of crazy sh!t like that over the years. When you race top alcohol you are able to get stuff repaired quickly just as long as you have the money.I had several good sponsors that I represented and had to be at the track for them. I got extra TV time because of it. My sponsors liked that.
It even torched the wist pin.
