Re: What will it run? - 08/26/18 07:30 PM

I'll take a guess at your fwhp to be 690, if your chassis is up to it and its all running on song your ticket could look something like this with the tyre height@28"?+3.7's>

60 Foot E.T. : 1.35
1/8 Mile E.T. : 6.15
1/8 Mile Trap Speed : 110.61
1/4 Mile E.T. : 9.74
1/4 Mile Trap Speed : 138
1/4 Mile Trap RPM : 6,114+slip

Re: What will it run? - 08/27/18 12:01 AM

if the weight is with the driver it should run 9.80 at 137.+ MPH once sorted out with open headers twocents
My old pump gas Duster ran 9.993 at 134.8 MPH corked up(3.0 inch exhaust system to the rear bumper) on pump swill with a 518 C.I. 400 block stroker motor with a little less compression weighing 3450 lbs. with me in it. IHTHs up
Good luck, let us know what it does thumbs

Re: What will it run? - 08/27/18 02:34 AM

Weight is with driver. 2in fenderwell headers into 3.5in exhaust straight through mufflers dumped in front of rear tires. Would be great if it went a 10.0 N/A

Re: What will it run? - 08/27/18 02:44 AM

I have a similar 512 combination. My 69 Dart is 3500 pounds with Driver. Indy EZ heads opened to max wedge size ,Indy intake ,1050 , one of Dwayne’s solid rollers 268/270 duration 646/646 lift,11.2 to1 compression,Ultimate 9 1/2 converter. The car has Caltracs and 410 Ratio with 10.5 x 29.5x 15 radials. Yesterday it ran 9.86 trough the mufflers at 134.I think it would probably do 9.70 uncorked with a little tweaking, but its time to slow it down a bit.

Nice going Dave!!😎
Did you get scolded?

As for the OP, should be easy low low 10’s.
9’s in decent air after it’s sorted out.

Judgng from your location were you at Famoso? Or Sears Point (Infineon.. whatever they’re calling it these days).

Re: What will it run? - 08/27/18 03:23 AM

Yes I did get scolded. Then i added 100 pounds to the car, I put my passenger seat back in I filled the stock fuel tank all the way up and even put my big heavy battery booster pack in the trunk. I though that and the rising temp would slow it enough, but it still ran a 9.96. They weren’t happy. I need to slow it a couple tenths more before I go back. Thanks Dwayne for all your good work an advice.

10.20-10.50 Getting radial tires to work with that combo is going to be the fun part.

Any on board data or at least a wide band...........

Re: What will it run? - 08/27/18 07:39 PM

I agree w/ the 9.80s when sorted out. I know I went 10.40s at 129 mph at 3700 lbs w/ less motor than you have.
The radials will work just fine too.

I agree with 9.80's. Ron

I do have a wide band on it will need to spend some time reading the plugs and getting the carb dialed in.

Re: What will it run? - 09/18/18 05:18 AM

Well dragweek was cut short for us.We headed for Atlanta with 1 and a half 1/8th mile passes about 60miles on the car. First 1/8th mile pass ran the car about 400ft through 1st and 2nd. The car carried the wheels about 12in 40ft out leaving at 2500rpm. The timing system was messed up and did not get a ticket. 2nd pass car hooked then spun bad and ran 6.75 at 102. Had some issues with the valve cover vents blowing oil b/c no baffle so we loaded it up. Made some baffles and put some miles on it tuning the carb for cruise. Everything was good to go so we loaded up. We made the first test pass on Sunday after the rain came through. The car hooked good and ran through the 1/4 with no issues but the front half didn't feel as strong as the test pass I had made. Get to the ticket shack and no ticket during to water in the beams! So we pull the air cleaner bump the timing to 34degrees from 32 and make it back to the lanes just before last call. The car was lazy and did not pull hard through the lights. Went a 10.76 at 122mph. Back to the pits pull the valve covers to check lash and everything is spot on. Start the car let it run for about 2 mins and it locks up as tight as can be. Car had 25lbs of oil pressure idling at 1300rpm. Let the motor cool down and it is all you can do to turn the engine over with breaker bar. Pull the plugs and valve covers, no damaged plugs or push rods.
We now know it's in the bottom end. Looks like the main and rod clearances we all too tight spun #3rod bearing and 1,2,4 were soon to follow.

Re: What will it run? - 09/18/18 08:56 AM

Bummer. Sorry to hear, but glad you caught it before it ventilated the block and worse. Are you sure it was only a clearance problem?
Posted By: RRandP92

Re: What will it run? - 09/18/18 04:22 PM

Based on what checking the crank so far it looks like a clearance only issue. Running a mellings high volume pump and milodon single line static pick up in a 6qt hemi pan for ground clearance. Car had 75-80lbs oil pressure through the traps. I have a 7qt pan but it hangs very low.

Re: What will it run? - 09/18/18 04:47 PM

Wow! Sorry to hear as my combo is almost same as yours. Would guess 10.0 to 10.10. What were your bearing clearances?

Re: What will it run? - 09/18/18 07:03 PM

The good throws were at .0015 on the rods. Should have checked them over.
