piston top material removal/balancing Q

piston top material removal/balancing Q - 08/19/18 03:50 AM

I'm thinking I may need to cut an intake valve notch in my flat top pistons. According to my figuring a notch 2.02 dia/.039" deep will remove 1.97 CC's with a weight of that material being 5.32 grams. Will this 5.32 gram reduction mess up my balance? 360 race app cast crank ext balance cast pistons. Bobweight 2189. piston (each) 617. pin 153. rings (set) 58. rod (recip) 223. rod (rotating) 1032 (a pair). rod bearings (pair) 102. oil (estimated) 4 grams. thank you for your time.

No worries, you will only likely be taking an eyebrow out of the piston, so betting less than a gram per piston for balance purposes.

I missed that! I was calculating a "cylinder" .039" deep and 2.02" dia when in actuality with the 18 deg angle it WILL be eyebrow. Thank you, I owe ya one! Sometimes it ain't WHAT you know it is WHO you know. EDIT the Sealed Power H405P (I might be off on that #), have 4 notches for a listed total of 10CC & I have set somewhere so I will find em for a visual.
