Pics of your turbo setups?

Pics of your turbo setups? - 08/18/18 09:32 PM

I would like to see some pics of turbo setups if anyone has them.

Im torn between a procharger or a turbo system, if I knew how to rig up a turbo and keep it under the hood that would help a lot.

For what its worth my car is a 70' RR, but im open for pics of any muscle cars with turbos under the hood.

Someone mentioned using a stock exhaust manifold of some type and run it upside down and reversed.

Is that a big restrictive point or is that not important with a turbo car?

Here's the set up in my 67 dart, I bought the car with the set up already made but it fits under a stock hood, he used headmen block hugger headers and fabbed the rest, uses twin air/water intercooler located inside the fenders just behind the headlights. I got the car with all of the set up minus the motor he built for it, no biggie already have my engine just waiting on a few parts to drop it in.

Thanks for the pic.

Thats a clean setup right there, nice and symmetrical.

Im just not sure if I want an engine compartment that full, I already have to deal with a Powerstroke.

The motor he built orignally was a stock 360 block base 408 stroker. I went with a Ritter block for mine.

Mine's not the prettiest, but running since 2012. van/RV manifolds turned upside down.

Was just going to be a cheap as can do build with a stock 5.7, but since bought forged parts as I know I won't be able to keep the boost low enough to keep cast parts together laugh2

Thanks for the pictures, fellas.

If I ever build a strip car it will be a turbo engine, but I think thats just too darn crowded for a street setup.

Well mines a street/strip car, 100% street legal will even race with full interior.

Well you can see the down pipe'show they are ran and then under he brought it down to just forward of where a header collector would be so it lines up where you would normally run an exhaust. I'll find a picture. Okay here is the exhaust routing.

link to my build pictures.

I was definitely underqualified to build mine. So was the $60 used wire welder I bought to do it in my garage vs the shop back home, but we got it done and been leak/crack free for 6yrs now of street use. From years of observing and reading it seemed using OEM manifolds was key to success. 2nd best would have been logs made from sch40 Weld Els, from both a skills to build and durability standpoint.

Thanks for that link. That helps me out a lot visualizing what needs to be done.

Re: Pics of your turbo setups? - 08/22/18 04:54 AM

you have to figure out where you can hang the turbo to get the piping to and fro and then start by making at least a temp mount to put it there. Cardboard and pvc can be your friend in the early stages. The next one I build I'll have a vertical band saw (even just a cheap harbor freight one) and a bench sander to clean up the angles. Sawsall with hose clamps as cutting guides was still pretty difficult to do well for me.
