Richard Rawlings, the star TV host of several car-related TV shows on the Discovery Network, crashed while drag racing in the Roadkill Nights celebrity showdown on the famous Woodward Avenue in Pontiac, Michigan.

Rawlings was racing against NHRA superstar Leah Pritchett at the wheel of a Dodge Challenger Hellcat when he appeared to spin the tires just a little too long and lost control of the rear end. Rawlings attempted to catch the rear but his slight flick of the steering wheel only sent him straight into the drivers' side concrete barrier. Despite not carrying much speed thanks to a long burnout he did at the start, it’s estimated that he was doing about 60-70 miles per hour when the accident happen. I personally witnessed the crash from the Dodge SRT hospitality trailer, and while it wasn't life-threatening, it's enough to scare the bejesus out of anyone who's not used to crashing into walls at speed.

Needless to say, the crowd had a good laugh at Rawlings expense.

"You showboated all the way into the wall!" a fan yelled at Rawlings as his Hellcat slowly rolled to the finish line. "That sucks big time," he added.

Pritchett, who races for the NHRA championship-winning Don Schumacher Racing team, went on to win the race and moved on to the next round. However, it was former WWE professional wrestler Bill Goldberg who crushed the competition (quite literally) to earn the title of fastest celebrity racer on Woodward Avenue.

I used to try to watch his show until all the rants about how much he hated Mopars. Then, in true Mopar fashion, Dodge sponsors him. I wanted to puke.

He may be rich and a great businessman, but he's still a dickbag.

Bingo. I wouldn’t trade places with him even if he had twice as much money. He’s a TOOL

He did that smoke show instead of racing for real so he didn't lose to a girl, which would have happened.

Then his kick-side Dennis is there with booze in hand to appear on the screen. Both a couple of toolbags.

I raced at the first Roadkill Event on Woodward and they said everyone was supposed to take a breathalyzer but I didn't have to and I didn't see anyone else take it either. Lol. Of course the whole event was a clusterpluck in the pit side at least.

And Leah is awesome. Glad she was sensible enough to wear her helmet while racing next to that guy.

Just remember any press is is free advertising - acting stupid will get you a bunch of press! Slightly wrecking one demon - got a lot of free press!- I would not be surprised Ma-Mopar told him to go do something stupid of which Rawlings probably said "hold my beer - I will be right back"

He's not posing - he 's exactly what he says he is (not a mechanic, engineer, driver or restoration expert)- an investor with an eye toward anticipating the public's taste and making money off it.
Anyone who fits these 2 categories is OK with me:
1. makes money, but not from me
2. pays taxes

and yes, he's annoying

WHO'S JEALOUS???? offtopic
As the guy who started this thread, I was never mentioning ANYTHING about his bank account. Who cares??? Nothing to do with what I meant. Why does everyone immediately mention his wealth??? That's why I made the new kids on the block joke.
I'm sure they guy is good at flipping cars. So what. I meant he should quit trying to be a driver, or a builder, or even someone who gets the meaning of getting treed.
He should stick to what he knows, being a flipper, ladies jeans and bracelets.

Re: Richard Rawlings should give up - 08/13/18 03:57 PM

Now I see why he didn't want to drive his pro-mod/street car Challenger against Chief awhile back. Likely would have totaled it too.

He gets his money from TV networks, advertisers, and his restaurant chains. He even has a restaurant in South Africa. Once his TV time runs out so will a good chunk of the money just like the American Chopper guys etc.

Re: Richard Rawlings should give up - 08/13/18 04:14 PM

I remember liking his show when it came out. There are a lot of cool cars that are not collectable enough to restore and come out ahead which is a sweet spot for us low buck hobbyists to have some fun. It seemed like they were doing the stuff a lot of us do making fun slightly ratty hotrods but then they managed to sell them for top dollar based on their branding which is a good trick.

I can’t even watch their show now it’s like a lame product showcase for their parts sponsors and their corporate customers like how the occ bikes were.

That Richard guy I thought all his car guy credibility was from once holding the coast to coast felony speeding ticket avoidance record? Thunderball or gumball or something?

Probably a good idea he didn’t get talked into getting into the Laughlin car to race Big Chief! I don’t know but if my “image” had a significant impact on my carreer and I was about to do something I had absolutely NO IDEA how to do, I would get some serious advice from some serious people. I still might not have the talent, but I wouldn’t lose because I was clueless!

Actually a simple google search would show you he is self made.

It's ok to not like the guy, as I don't really care for him either, but never once has he claimed to be a driver, and he earned his own money.

To say he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth without checking it out is silly.

Re: Richard Rawlings should give up - 08/13/18 06:57 PM

Not many guys are really worried about how much money he has or how he got it. I personally don’t watch or care for his show because I can’t stand him. He just has a habit of the few times I do see him he confirmes to
Me how much of an idiot he really is.
Posted By: Silver70

Re: Richard Rawlings should give up - 08/13/18 07:07 PM

If you look him up, he mentions going broke a couple times trying to start gas monkey. It's not like he got a show and became rich... he spent many years to get where he is. He was with Arron working on one of the builds on Overhaulin many years ago. He may not work on cars now, but he did at least some in the past.

I really liked the show when it first came on the air, but can barely stand watching it now. Not really cause of Rawlings either.
Posted By: Hemi_Joel

Re: Richard Rawlings should give up - 08/13/18 07:50 PM

Success stories are great, when a guy gets rich honestly. I have no problem with him having $$. whether his fortune is a house of cards that will tumble when his show fades away, or if is solid, I don't know or care. But he just comes off as a jerk, every time I'm seen him.

Like after the crash, he never admits to screwing up, never apologizes to Leah or Dodge, just makes a bunch of lame excuses. Then he says he doesn't feel bad, getting beat by the the fastest woman in the world. Well, he would have got beat by a heard of snails dragging a pulling sled! Because when you hit the wall, you are DQ'ed!

Compare his lame excuses to somebody who is truly great but humble like This guy Randy and you see what class is vs being a tool like RR.

Some people like him, some don't..like everybody else.

Yeah he hit the wall, even the pros do it ...

Yeah he succeeded.....good for him..

Sure would like to see him party one time !!! shouldn't be too dull

We all know he is not a professional driver...so what ?
