Bench seat weight

Bench seat weight - 08/09/18 05:59 PM

I have been looking at putting some A100 buckets in my Belvedere and removing the factory bench. Any of you guys know how much weight I’d be saving? These would have the aluminum super stock brackets and the bench coming out is pretty heavy as I remember. Thanks guys!

Probably save you 30-35 pounds with aluminum seat brackets

Hose.

My 65' front split folding bench seat weighed a whopping 100 lbs complete with mounting brackets and all.
The A-100 seats with A-990 aluminum non adjustable brackets will be around 40 lbs complete for the pair.
You are looking at a 55-60 Lbs savings with that alone.

Hot rod magazine did an article about lightening up a Duster a while back.
The A100 van seats weighed 28 pounds each.
Split bench is 95 pounds, typical bench seat is 90.
Like i said, more like 30-35 pounds total weight loss with two seats and aluminum brackets over the bench

Just to clarify in a wide field of products, A-100 seats can weigh anywhere between the very low 20 Lbs (like mine) to the mentioned 28 lbs each. It just depends which ones you are looking at.
There are non folding A-100 seats and folding types like the original A-990's had. The weight between those alone can be very different.
There are also slightly different designs in the under carriages and tracks from year to year on those seats. I remember having a pair of early 80's Dodge Van A-100 seats and thought I had the gold until I found out more about the actual 60's style seats in both locked (non folding) and folding (A-990) types. The weight was different for sure.
As far as for my bench seat, I weighed it right after I took it out of the car on a certified scale and it was dead on at 100 Lbs. with brackets and all hardware. This was a standard 1965 330 B-body split bench seat with the passenger side back support being a little wider compared to the drivers side.

Keep in mind that an A-body bench seat may be a little different in weight as well just because it is a tad bit narrower than a B-body seat IIRC. In either case, your A-990 conversion will relieve your car of unnecessary weight right up front.

Two little tricks while you are at it is to measure your height and then measure your reach with your legs while in the car with the A-990 seats. This measurement is critical to the A-990 seats and corresponding brackets to be nestled in the right part of the floor for anchoring strength and also provide a slight seat set back by sometimes a few inches. Those few inches play an important role in taking advantage of weight setback in a drag car. Cheap use of weight placement.
