904 Tranny Question - 03/09/09 09:40 PM

When I manually try to shift from first to second it feels like the trans is not shifting, I have to slow down shift into drive and it will work ok. It will kickdown fine in drive, the fluid looks ok, I tried less throttle pressure but still does it. Any ideas or suggestions and I am sorry if I explained this wacky.

Drop pan, check band adjustments and make sure band pistons are seated in bores properly, if pan has excessive debris it may be time for a freshening...............Good luck.. ........Tom

drop pan,inspect/clean,adjust bands, adjust throttle pressure valve rod/linkage,test drive

could just need some adjusting

when I get the "no 2nd" thing,I do a band adjustment and use the test drive to look for another tranny

most times I get 2nd back and it holds for a while,I have done some jy trannys up to 3-4 adjustments before they give up

good luck

To me it feels like it is not releasing when manually shifting first to second. The fluid looks red with no smell, and shifts great driving around normally, even with less throttle presure adjustment. Only acts up when you get on it and manually shift, tranny has less than 2k miles.

Mine did that on my dart , adjusted the band and it did not help. Ended up pulling the valve body to get to the band apply servo, changed the steel seal on it, put it back together and everything was fine.

I think the cracked drum is coincidental to your shifting problem.

When a trans won't shift 1-2 at WOT the problem is usually too much throttle pressure, the governor wants more rpm than the engine is capable of.

John I think I might have said before the shifting issue would happen no matter what throttle pressure. It does drive and act so much better now but have not tried shifting manually yet.

In your original post you stated "I tried less throttle pressure but still does it".....in that case try even less.
