Anyone used MT ET Street R bias tires?

Anyone used MT ET Street R bias tires? - 08/01/18 04:56 PM

My local track runs street car race several times a season and the track prep is bad. My car has MT 325 ET radials so everyone know how well that works. Normally the problem it's just getting off the line but two weeks ago it turned loose in second gear and I almost crossed the center line before I got it caught up.

Has anyone ran the MT Street R bias ply tire? Has anyone tried them tubless? If I run tubes will I have to run screws?

Thanks, Justin

Yep. Ran them on my 9 sec s/s spring Duster for years and they would hook on ice.
Great tire.

Yep. I liked runnng tubes because the sidewall became stiffer. And i did use screws.

Like any other bias ply tire, if you run a tube in them, you need to be sure the tire doesn't slip on the rim. Either screws or beadlocks would be my suggestion.
Gluing them, like you do with radials, isn't guaranteed and isn't worth the chance of tearing the tube and losing air pressure going down the track.

Don't want screws or beadlocks? Then go tubeless and just deal w/ a lil leakage.
I have not run the new ET Street R tires, but I ran the old ET Street bias ply tires for many years. They'd lose a couple or 3 pounds of air overnight w/o tubes...no big deal.

You guys that have leaking tires going tubless aren’t prepping them right.

With radials i have went tubeless, but with bias tires i always ran tubes. Just stiffen up the tire a good bit. Nothing to do with leaking

Rubbing dawn dish soap on inside of tires works for me. Rarely have to add air.

This is what I've done with slicks and had good results. The reason I was looking at the MT tires is that are supposed to have a stiffer sidewall.

I coat mine with a Dawn and water solution and let it dry. The next day I coat them again then I prep and clean the bead to remove the "mold compound" with paint thinner, scuff them with red scott pad, and clean them again. Then I glue them on with High Tach sealer. I lose less than 1 pound of air during 5 months of winter storage.

Would this be the tire your asking about? I am going back to all radial and will be ordering a pair at months end. I am currently using a QTP.

Justin I run them tubeless on my Cuda and havn't had any trouble.
bought them from Larry Hodge Racing tire. I asked him about it and he said tons of guys race them tubeless and the trick to spay the rim with hairspray when installing which actually glues them to the rim and no need to use dawn.

He sells a lot to racers and could help you with your choice. Give him a call 217 677 2358 office, cell 217 433 3060 his price was the lowest and he also sells Hoosier

I think people are confusing the “ running them without tubes “ and they leak.
Everybody seems to know how to make the tires hold air without tubes.......
My point wasnt about holding air, my point was i run tubes on QTP’s only because it stiffens the sidewall. I have run them with and without tubes, prefer tubes, stiffer sidewall

I understand why you run tubes in QTP. The side walls are stiffer on the MTs and even with that I agree on a heavy car like mine that tubes would help the sidewalls.

Thanks for the pic. Tread pattern is same but the rest of the tires looks a little different. Didnt know those existed.

I think it was BIGCUBE that posted several years ago and I'm paraphrasing: SFI wheels don't need bead locks or screws with tubes. Anyway, I tried it. Mid 10's, 3700lbs, MT ET Bias Streets, Tubes, no screws. Many many many passes, no issues. smile

I am running a set tubeless on my heap.
I went to the track for the first time with them last week.
Although I am having some traction issues with them, I have a 4 speed with no line loc, so just a 2nd gear rolling burnout is not heating them up enough, plus the track prep was nill.
I lose about 5 lbs of air out of one every couple weeks, the other loses none.

I have the new style MT ET street r 16.5x31 for my street tires,Coated with dishsoap on a 12 rim with no tubes. They still will leak a few lbs intermittently.I don't normally race with then as I have a pair of MT 10.5w's slicks on another set of rims for the track.
I made 4 passes at South Mountain on the Carlisle weekend and they hooked up well lifting the front tires. In the 90* heat and 85% humidity it still went 6.13 @ 113.I had my slicks with me for Sunday but it rained.I was curious what the difference would have been between the 2 work

I also bought the billet rims from Larry. He's also a weld, MTPro 5.America Racing Pro series and Sander Engineering dealer.

Again rims and tires cheapest I could find and fresh dated and matched tires.

M/T’s website says they are designed “with all the latest technology of the ET Drag”. That’s marketing speak for: “it’s an ET Drag with some grooves in the tread”.
