Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars - 07/28/18 07:34 PM

CompetititionPlus.com has confirmed with a sourece close to the situation that NHRA's Pro Stock cars will indeed go through another significant change in 2019. We are told next year will usher in the Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars into the 500-inch arena. Both combinations will run in the same class with the Mountain Motor Cars having the option of carburetors or electronic fuel injection. We are told an announcement could come either in the days leading into the NHRA U.S. Nationals or during the event.

I’m sure most of the current nhra pro stock teams loved hearing that news.

7 years to late to save the class. All the IHRA engines are probably sold off and the racers moved on

It’s probably an effort to try and attract some “lower funded” teams to compete.
I’m sure a used IHRA mountain motor is cheaper than buying a new version 500ci EFI piece.

If it was limited to bodys made before 1980 that would be something.

Dozen-15 cars in PDRA usually. They put on a good show. And they're not all Camaros and a number of engine builders are involved. Looking at the 660 numbers they are pretty close to the 500" cars. Should be able to adjust some minimum weights a few pounds and be close. Glad to see it, should spark some interest in the class. I still like and appreciate the NA stuff. All about the motor.

A killer for the Mopar PS is that rev limiter. Johnson's Dart made more power over the NHRA rpm limit. Can't make the power then why spend a fortune and loose. There are also burn out and launch issue with EFI. I'd like to see the carbs back and individual front fenders and hood. Those 1 pcs front give up some body lines. Its like always moving towards FC in
which they all look alike. So much for the Factory Super cars moving into PS.

So fans will be able to tell the difference between F.I and carbed engines - the scoop!

PS needs manufacturer diversity, less overhead to compete, and arguably closer relation to Stock or SS, though that isn't a deal-breaker.
Right now, seeing a bunch of the same cars, that look more like PM or FC than an actual car, loses the visual appeal. The expense loses anyone who isn't a millionaire or well-connected. I don't see the value of the EFI switch, except to the supporting vendors (follow the money?) or rules that favor one make (follow the money again?)...
I'm OK with bringing in the Mountain Motor cars, but that could be difficult to manage unless there's at least a weight/size formula.
I think NHRA needs to re-think what Stock, SS & PS cars ought to be, but that's gonna hurt a lot of guys.
Obviously, one of the key problems is the demographic NHRA is trying to reach, and whether that has more value than tradition.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes, honestly I don't see it as a fix for Pro Stock.

As for the cars, they look like the average computer mouse with a wing on it.
