Battery n trunk cable routing? - 07/18/18 12:40 AM

Well I plan on going under the carpeting, but was wondering if there would be a problem passing tech with the 1/0 battery cable secured to the floor on top of the carpeting? Like on the side of the hump.

What year and body style are you working on?
I run mine under the door sill plates under the carpet or floor mats on the passenger side of the car up to and then under the kick panels in front of the doors and then up behind the dash and then into the engine compartment so all of the cable is out of sight except in the trunk and engine compartment work up twocents
I mount my batteries as far back as possible on the passenger side as close to the outside sheet metal that I can get ii safely mounted wrench up

'71 Scampdart. Any thoughts on making a 1/0 pig tail from the starter, to plug into the cable at a reachable spot and not behind the headers?

I keep all the electrical stuff inside the car. Main cable runs up through the car to a junction where it is distributed as needed.

Mine after coming off the battery runs along the continental shelf of the trunk floor by the lower quarters and then hugs the passenger wheel wells up to the rear well valley hump and across to the drivers side and into the cars interior. From there it runs along the floors edge and under the sill plates up to the kick panel area under the kick panel covers and then ends at a junction box half way up the inner firewall. On the engine side of the firewall, it snakes down very tightly down to the starter stud.
Aluminum cable strand for a lightweight set up. Heat shrink sealed ends for trouble free operation out in the elements.

I run my cable under my carpet through my car. What I did was put the starter on a Ford type starter solenoid that's in my trunk. So that way the large battery cable to the starter is only hot when cranking the eng. Then I run an 8 gage wire from the battery to the starter relay on the firewall where my car picks up its hot feed for everything. That also is under the carpet but I use a 70 amp fuse in a fuse holder bolted to the battery pos post as I wanted that fused and my alt output goes into that wire also. My 63 has been like that since 2006 so far and never a problem. You can just see the starter solenoid in front of the battery case. Ron

I made tabs so the cable runs along the upper RH 1/4 panel. Glued the tabs on with Plexus to the trunk gutter. Then over the tub and along the right door sill under the carpet. It terminates at a firewall pass thru near the gas pedal. That way you don't see it laying in the trunk.

This is pretty much how mine is ran.

Doug, how did you do the lever/handle for the battery cutoff switch, inside the car?

The linkage in the trunk is made from 3/8"fuel line tubing. Its held to the switch with a compression fitting cut in half. Bought the Morse cable and tabs on line for about $45. Made lever out of aluminum that attaches to a bar in the cage.

Any pictures of how it is mounted in the passenger area?
