Need rod, bearing, & bolt reccomendations

11 years ago i bought an all new 540 shortblock built for truck pulling...Siamese Mega Block, Callies 4.5, Wiseco pistons, and Eagle 7.1 rods (of all things to skimp on, rods should be the last). These rods are rated for 750hp. After the motor was pulled for body restoration, the standard 440-1s that i have run on the street were 345-CNCed. That, along with the appropriate solid roller cam, have put the HP level in the 850-900 range (Mike @ Muscle Motors rough guesstimate). Compression is 13.5:1. I would feel more at ease with 1000+ HP rods/bolts. Steel preferred, street driven. Suggestions??..or is that not enough info to go off of??

Open to main stud suggestions as well.

Mines never been dynoed but has been 9.0@150@3345lbs. Molnar 7.100" rods and crank. The rods come with ARP 2000 bolts and are light. Tom is very helpful. Give him a call. He'll ask for your current bobweight and RPM range and give you an honest answer.

These rods are rated for 750hp

The purpose of that rating is to allow Buffy the phone girl to answer your question in the shortest possible time. "This is the rod you need - you expect to have 750 hp, don't you?"
Would a 40 psi 1000 hp LSX turbo engine break those rods? Not at 5,000 rpm.
How about a 400 hp engine at 9,000 rpm? Every time.

What breaks a rod:
1. RPM squared (8,000 is not 33% more than 6,000, but 78% more)
2. reciprocating weight (direct proportion: 2 X gram weight = 2 X as bad)

If you exceed the critical rpm (generally a function of the fastener size & quality) the rod will break with the ignition off.

I have Oliver billet steel rods in my hemi. Been beating on them since 2006.

I agree with DVW. Molnar parts are a great product at a good price. If you never want to think about it again, Oliver or Callies Ultra.

If it was my engine I would look at Oliver, Crower, Callies or Carrillo.
The money spent is cheap insurance.
Just my opinion.

I do believe an Eagle Rod with an L-19 bolt would handle what you have but for how long? The USA steel is just way, way better.

I have a friend who broke two Eagle rods with L19 bolts making less than 1000 HP with NOS
As already mentioned Oliver, Crower, Carillo or Molnar rods with either the ARP 2000 or with the L19 bolts should all be safe, go on the makers recommendations
On the main studs ARP are the only good ones I know of out there, check the main bearing bores before and after for roundness, if the stud change it by more then .0002 have it fixed

I’d do ARP main studs, line hone mains to spec.

If it’s in the budget, my preference would be Oliver rods.
