Damn...who says Sportsman racing is boring to watch...looks like the early 80's old Diamond P stuff, with 1/2 of the greatest announcing duo ever in the booth...

Any upstate New Yorkers remember Alex Chilcott's A/MP 68 Hemi Cuda at the Valley?

Back in the 70's we would camp out for 3-4 days at Englishtown (Summernationals) and for all but the pro classes we could go up to the starting line and watch the modified cars. That was a treat. I'd check out the tell-tale on the C/SM cars and they were at 11,000 rpm. I REALLY miss that sound! G/MP was a great class too. 3700 lb Camaros with 280ish cu-in engines and 7.17 gears. These guys had to have a degree in metallurgy to keep the drivelines together. Enough reminising....

Yep when I was kid..hanging at the track that what I remember..M/P -gas class's...got to luv them.

Isn't it interesting how when properly hosted and shot it's exciting, and the cars appear as fast as prostockers. The way they shoot the race now the speed doesn't translate, and these cars running in the teens look like bullets.

NHRA really messed up when they did away with Modified Prod and went with complicated eliminator

Them was good times, my dad ran Modified back in the late 70's with a 76 Hemi Dart in A/G and B/G, but the writing was on the wall by then, best way to go was the small block, couldn't get within 3 tenths of the vegas and monzas.

Love small (about 300") motors, deep gears & 4-speeds. Used to stand a few feet away from 'em at Lions. My dual-purpose car in the early '70s was a 292" 4-speed '57 Chevy with 4.88s, and I never wanted for a radio!
I'm with a lot of you guys: nowadays if I spectate, the throttle-stop cars allow me to hit the concession stands and wander the pits. I come a-runnin' back though for Stock & SS, and beat the PS & Fuel fans to the good seats. I want to see guys race the WHOLE distance.

That announcer is Dave McClelland, Very good also.
