NHRA Div 3 Norwalk race Tech Inspection - 04/26/18 03:38 PM

I'm thinking about going to the NHRA Div 3 race at Norwalk to run S/ST. I have not been to an NHRA Div race in a LONG time. What do they look for at Tech Inspection? I know I'm good on the usual safety stuff. Belts, helmet, rear shut-off switch, neutral start switch, etc. My main question is my trans shield. It's an older TCI for Powerglide. It has a SFI sticker but I'm not sure if it has the current SFI regulation number. Is this something they look at?

5 years for the trans shield and flexplate shield. They will also require a diaper regardless of MPH in S/ST

And the usual, current belts and helmet. NHRA membership.

Probably will not crawl under car to inspect trans shield but deff diaper in sst.

I'm good on the diaper. Flex plate is SFI. JW bell has current cert. I guess I'll get a new trans shield just to be on the safe side. Don't want to have to buy & install one at the track.
Next question. Car has an expired NHRA certification tag on it. Will that be a problem?

I never seen them crawl under a low car.. I know
that they never looked under mine and it was
low.. they did look at the simple stuff like
the ground wire to the fuel tank and the belts
and helmet.. then the shut off had to work..
was pretty quick.. but expect it to be longer
the first time

Yes. They have chassis cert there you can pay to get it done then

Generally speaking if you have an SFI number you will be good. They rarely will look, but if you have a removable trans tunnel etc it makes them asking easier. I have only been to two tracks that wanted to see the stuff for themselves. Both were out of division for me and I got the full anal probing at those two tracks. Not at any other out of division tracks just those two.

Trans tunnel can be removed but it's not obvious without moving interior carpet. Not a tube chassis/sheetmetal interior car. I'll get a new trans shield installed before Norwalk & deal with Chassis cert at the track.

Norwalk is an awesome facility for sure. Love that place. We will be there again later this year for the NMCA event. Go give em hell in S/ST. Awesome class with great guys for sure

Do yourself a favor and record the numbers from all of the SFI stuff. Shields, damper, chassis tag, dates on belts, etc. Easier to do in the shop than after you get to the track. If you're a car they haven't seen, they may look at you a little closer. Same if you're from out of division. They had all the D1 cars apart one year at Quaker, looking at trans shields, etc.

Chassis tag, bolt in valve stems, location of fuel vent, mounting for belts, master switch check with engine running, collector tethers, diaper, SFI tags, jam nuts and washers on rod ends where they should be, ground wire on the fuel tank fill, just a few things a tech guy could look at if it's not too hectic.

I'll give em hell at least for one round.
I'll have to replace the window net before June. It's wore out from the six times I had the car out in the last two years.

I don't think the window net has to be current unless you run a advanced ET class like Top Sportsman etc.

No issue if it is a rib style but is if net style

The rulebook general section expiration table say 2 years. The S/ST section says window nets are only required if you're faster than 135 mph. I won't be that fast, so I think I'll be OK.
The window net date is good until June.

Double check your helmet. Mine was good for IHRA but expired for NHRA. Norwalk caught it during tech so I bought a new one over the Winter

Just checked it. I'm good on the helmet. Full-face Simpson SA 2010.
