What Pistons to use for a 440 Build - 04/13/18 12:26 AM

So I am thinking of building a 440 engine to run mostly at the track. Probably a on the milder side build. Here is what I have so far. 440 block, stock steel crank and rods, indy 440 port 2.19 1.81 heads, M1 intake and not sure on cam, but thinking .590 solid. Will use ARP main bearing, rods and head studs. Not thinking of much more than 6K rpm. Using a 727 with 4K stall and 4.10 gears. I was thinking of the forged six pack pistons but people say they are too heavy.. what do you think? Thanks.

Call ICON and get what you need. I would run a forged, light as possible. Get a thin ring pack 1/16-1/16-3/16 max I like .043-.043-3.0mm

I agree with the thinner ring pack, more power for almost no cost.
Checked Summit for 0.030" over, 1/16" rings, 1.094" pin, 3.75" stroke and these are showing as shelf stocked pistons, sorted by compression height.
ICON 968-30 - 2.067" compression height - $626.97
ROSS 82008 - 2.065" CH - $689.97
SRP 213455-8 - 2.062" CH - $561.20
JE 213466-8 - 2.058" CH - $746.93
Wiseco PTS531A3 - 2.050" CH - $486.00

I had a SRP forged 340 stroker piston break, fracture, the wrist pin boss broke off of one side of their piston at 2000 RPM with less than three minutes of running while breaking in the new cam down It tore up that rod, the other piston across from it along with the other rod and broke the cylinder wall on the bad piston side and crankshaft throw puke
I sent them both pistons and rods and they wouldn't do any thing about it runaway puke
I contacted Scat and SRP as I wasn't sure what broke first, the rod and wrist pin where laying beside each other in the oil pan along with the broken piston parts work Scat was willing to work with me on it but after looking at it thoroughly the piston failed first shruggy
I'm going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and if that doesn't get any good results I will file with the State of CA consumer board on defective auto parts work

Diamond Pistons. Fair prices and very flexible with modifications...
