Moved rear springs inward. Have fuel tank question?? - 03/19/18 04:50 PM

10 years ago I moved the springs inboard 3" on my '66 Belv, using the spring relocation kit. I was running a fuel cell and racing the car. I now am taking the car back to a stock tank and street trim. Problem... the factory tank does not fit between the springs! The tank is probably 1" too wide on each side. Any ideas? Is anyone running a factory tank with the spring relo kit on a 66-67 B body?

I did for a while. Had to roll the flange on the seam up to clear. I ended up going to a cell so i could run the exhaust out the rear.

I cut the spare tire well out and installed a 65-6 mustang "street rod tank". I can't figure out how to add pictures from my phone.

I bent the tank flanges by the rear spring hangars to clear the springs moved into the inside of the outer rear sub frame rails on my 1966 dodge Coronet Deluxe two door sedan hammer work scope
I used a dead blow hammer on my 1969 Dart GTS to make clearance on the rear of the passenger side gas tank on that car with the leaf springs moved into the inner side of the inner sub frames, about 3/4 inch closer to the outer fender wells with the springs that way work
No problems with the front of either tank on both cars shruggy

if using an "external" tank, i'm not a fan of the mustang tank, using the top of the tank as part of the trunk floor. may be just me. although those tanks do work for solving several tank related issues, and are very reasonably priced.

If you're willing to pony up the duckets, these guys make a nice tank. All sorts of options too like provisions for in-tank pump, sump etc. Light too. I have one in my Duster, nice piece.

Actually, that's exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a relatively flat trunk floor. The a body tank, interfered with the Dana cover and hardware. So the mustang "street rod" tank was the perfect solution. Enough so that I'm putting another in my 73 d100, to eliminate the in cab tank.

Question.. are you using a single or dual exhaust
tank.. there is a tank for both.. I made a lot of
tanks over the years in the fuel lab.. I like to
build them out of alum.. just make a template of the
floor pan strainers to use.. just make up a set of
straps(very easy) once you get it done
This one is on my Rampage.. simple piece.. 17
gals with a calibrated sending unit.. all home
