One of the best facilities in the country! I want to see the 4-wide fuel cars at least once in my life for the shear explosiveness of it. The racing part of it is kind of blah...

My thoughts are NHRA has a hard time keeping 2 lanes of traction equal so is impossible to keep four racable. I would never pay to go see one.

Re: LVMS 4 wide.like it or not - 03/17/18 03:57 PM

I think at Charlotte, NHRA has shown they can take care or all four lanes as well as two.

However I really don't care for the four wide racing.

That being said I really want to see the fuel cars run four wide at least once.

Since Charlotte and LVMS have the same owner lets hope they can. I saw they raised a little money to be the first pair to go down each lane. Thought that was kinda cool. This weekend 1/2 next weekend 3/4

Re: LVMS 4 wide.like it or not - 03/17/18 04:15 PM

4 wide is a joke. I envision it when it was originally thought up as a way to speed up the program when there were 32 car fields and run on a 2 wide strip. Now it's just a gimmick - the pro ranks today are lucky if they can fill a 16 car field. And there's usually enough action watching 2 cars go down the track. Maybe attention deficit disorder has grown over the years. But I see no reason to speed up the current show, nor do I think a track will ever recoup their investment of adding 2 additional lanes. And if one set of lanes gets oiled down, do they send cars down the other while clean up goes on? Not if they are concerned about the clean up crew's safety.

Not a fan. I like the one on one of Drag Racing.

Whats next 4 wide no prep?.... Night of destruction

4 wide bracket racing?... Driving the stripe would be rough

It's loud and sensory overload. Once you get passed that, it's a gimmick. It's like let's play one football game a year with 22 people on each side using two quarterbacks. After the first quarter, it will just look like a big cluster foxtrot.

One round less of the pro racing on Sunday. We can only hope they will increase the sportsman quotas at these LV nationals now. 65 Stock cars, and then they have over 100 the next week at the divisional race. Will the wake up ever happen?

What are they going to do when a wind/sand storm blows through there on Saturday night of the Nationals? Now 4 lanes to clean up and prep.

Maybe one pair launching from each end of the track..........

so you prefer running an 1/8th mile that narrows down to one lane?

I am going. Booked flight already.
Will probably only see 4 wide race one time. But I don't need much of an excuse to go to vegas. drool

4 wide is garbage. I would never pay to watch this and would probably say no to a free ticket for this. NHRA is FUBAR with this stuff.

I'm old school: 2 cars is enough to dissect, and a better contest.
To me it's a gimmick, though no doubt the auditory assault must be pretty amusing.

I will be working the ET booth on the return road...passing out time slips...LOL...not doing it for the money...LOL

You'll be sneaking out of your booth to watch as certainly there is a lot of time between slips...

Would love to see it but then again I'd be happy at any main event track in the USA,, I'll get there in the next few years.

Actually since nhra now limits the sportsman classes to a smaller number...the job is easier...just dont get run over by the Pro classes in a big hurry to get back to the pits...

Are you working the top or down by the tower? There is more than one guy for the slips at the top during a Nat. right?

Re: LVMS 4 wide.like it or not - 03/20/18 02:00 PM

The novelty wore off pretty quick at Charlotte (at least for me). Too much going on trying to watch 4 lanes at one time. blush

Lets hope they have all the timing issues with the track worked out by then. Sure struggled and I hear a lot of mumbling about this past weekend. I'm know they will but feel for you guys having to run points paying bracket races and being guinea pigs for issues with the system. Sure don't seem right to me. I heard some pretty harsh things were said in the tower to the racers as well.

Re: LVMS 4 wide.like it or not - 03/20/18 04:37 PM

Had quite a bit of downtime on Saturday as they fixed the glitches in the timing equipment, finally on Sunday it was working correctly. Saw one car get a red light that never moved, they had to rerun that race.

As of last weekend lanes 3 and 4 were not wired up as rolls of wire were setting where the starter stands.

Re: LVMS 4 wide.like it or not - 03/20/18 04:43 PM

Yeah I heard of a couple folks get counted out in Super Pro who were tickling the stage beam. Apparently the first flicker was setting off the auto start. They definitely had issues with the bikes. And a lot of issues with the juniors. Heard some people were grumbling about margins and win lights too. Saying they know they were ahead at the stripe and did not break out but the win light went to the other lane. But when people don't win they always seem to have a reason they didn't. Seems there were more issues in S/P than Pro, at least according to the people I talked to.

I just don't think its fair to make you all run for points when they obviously had issues with the timing system. Hopefully next weekend goes better. I hear they are going to try and run all 4 this coming weekend. Juniors in 1/2 and big cars in 3/4. Hopefully it goes smoother.

I ordered my 3 day weekend pass, reserved, 4 wide tickets from ticketvulture last night. 139.00 plus 18.00 in fees. About half of the stands were already sold out or at least unavailable to purchase.

It was as if they thought it was OK to not have dial ins on the reader board or anyone in the lanes checking them. I had a spirited conversation with Jeff (Richard Cranium) who couldn't understand why I wasn't willing to get out of my dragster 4 cars before the burn out box, during eliminations, check my opponent's dial, get back in and belted, and race. He's a special kind. I packed up and left Sunday. $300 in diesel to get there, $130 entry fee, $100 race gas, meals, time etc. and they weren't ready for a race, priceless. I never thought I would say this but, I miss Chris Blair.

My thinking is that racing four wide is another marketing gimmick put on by the owner, promoter down
Not good for us racers either whiney
As far as track managers at LVMS and local favoritism I've ben on the wrong side of that deal also puke runaway

I don't think you are alone there in regards to the current track manager. I have had issues on more than one occasion, and they changing dial after the ready line is nothing new and happens all the time there. It is not policed and have been told many times he wont. When I first moved to Vegas(pre foster) we had more racers, larger payouts and IMO a better run program. Living there I don't have a lot of options but when people ask why I don't run the points deal this is part of the reason. Its a shame a World Class facility is run the way it is. From track prep to cronyism being rampant it has left a sour taste in my mouth for the bracket program. Thankfully the big events are run very well, the Fling, Mopar race, divisional and nationals, WCHRA and SCSN are all awesome races and the track is usually killer. Just a shame it cannot be equally good week to week for the bracket guys.
