Any difference betweeb firecore and msd distributors - 03/14/18 03:52 PM

Need to pick out a distr. and ignition. Been planning on all msd, w/6AL-2. Low deck race only application. MSD seems to be the standard, pricey though. If I can save $500 and see no difference on the dyno, I'll consider firecore dist. and coil. I will use the 6AL-2 in either case. thanks

I run a Firecore distributor with a 6AL and Blaster SS coil with Firecore wires and I have been very pleased with that system. I like the small diameter body and you can use them with any cylinder heads.

Where are you buying parts? You can buy the MSD distributor and Blaster II coil for $380 shipped.

Yeah the difference is that the MSD will actually hold together after 6 months of racing

I like and use the MSD bigger gold colored race boxes with the proper coils, not any of the 6 series, on all of my race cars with compression and rev above 6000 RPM work
Their is a world of difference on how much spark the race boxes will make and how high they will do that at or above 7000 RPM work scope
I do buy and use used MSD7,7A,7C 7AL2 and 7AL3 with the proper coils, they will knock your socks off though so be careful around them thumbs
The first one I bought was a MSD 404B back in 1975, that box made my NHRA legal 426 Street Hemi motor start and idle a lot easier when cold and it would pull a lot harder in the summer in L.A. in the summer smog back then than the other two non MSD boxes I had used before then work
IHTHs thumbs
I do have two new MSD boxes that I haven't used yet, a Grid and a Digital 7 non programmable realcrazy shruggy

Ok, the $500 saving is more like a couple hundred. msd prices are summit pro shop. Im sure the msd distrib. and 7AL box is the best combo. Just trying to save a buck where I can without hurting performance too much.
