MT ET Street Radial or if your a bit more serious with the drags go the same but PRO Radial. I would stay away from a ply tire for lots of street driving.

These are mine, very sticky on the track and nice on the road, only issue is they don't have a lot of tread depth to start with.

Another vote for M/T!
Car is a 4 speed car, most feel that a bias ply will work better than a radial. I am currently running MT drag radials and like them but they are worn out and a new set is needed. The Caltracs & Dana are new so I figured its time to make the switch to DOT Bias Plys

If you are running a 4 speed.... forget about using radials.

Forget about using any decent radial on the street with a four speed unless your willing and able to slip the clutch a lot when leaving hard from a dead stop
My choice would and has been M/T ET Street tires as big as you can fit and try 12Lbs. or less when you want it to hook hard

I have had good luck with Hoosier QuickTime Pros. Work great street or track and tend to like more air pressure.

I think a radial would work ok at your power level with the four speed. Especially if you are going to be on the street more than the track. M/T street radials drives and handles nice.

Scott MT Street R 28 x 11.5 x 15 8" rims if you want bias ply. I had no luck with radials and my 4 speed hemi.

Another vote for QTP’s.
Thanks guys....I never even thought of QTP's (or American racer L60-15's for that matter). Question, while checking into the QTP's they are pretty adamant about saying "For Off Road Use Only", obviously they are a thinly disguised drag slick but are they truly unsafe on the street (wet roadways aside)? The MT and AR's don't offer such harsh warnings as far as I am aware?

I have driven hundreds and hundreds of street miles on QTP’s nice tires
The 28 by 11.5( 28 by 10 wide) fits nicely on a Demon/ Duster with correct backspace wheel.

Me too and I'd put tubes in em cos the sidewalls are thin and my mid 9-second Dart kills em...........

Radials with a 4spd is easier than you might think, likely quicker/faster and better mpg as well.

I run QTP’s on both my cars. Had them on the dart also when it had a 4 speed. They worked well.

A buddy of mine built a '87 notch mustang with a grand national engine. Flat hood, stock interior, other than a few gauges and steering wheel, stock seats, and shifter, no cage or bar. Just had welded in subframe connectors, the kind that you cut the floor for. Stock suspension. With the grand national engine and trans, 3.73's and a set of McCreary ( american racer ) L60-15's that car went 9.72@142, driven to the track, and it still got almost 30 mpg on the hiway.
That car made us A LOT of money. And those tires worked great.

M & H 275-60-15 bias plys. On my third set. Drive more than race, but 3800 # car went 1.52 on them through the pipes.
Lots of buddies run American Racers too. AR is less $$ than the M & H.

Driven many miles with QTP's. Just stay out of water and rain or slow down extremely . They are wrinkle wall types with the right pressure.

Re: Which street drag tires? - 03/06/18 04:41 AM
I recommend tubes with the QTP’s.
I hear you on the wet roads part, I've been caught out in some rain with the MT drag radials and even those were a little spooky.

I've heard of a 69 Dart going on it's roof on a warm sunny day where some water washed across the road in a low spot.

My boy Curt did a Ballerina dance with his Duster and kissed the wall on the BQE coming from the now defunct E-town in light rain against my wishes while wearing M/T ET streets. I had told him to slow her down, and whali-whoop, it all happened right in front of me.
QTP's are no better.
I always keep a keen eye for puddles, open hydrants and just lay low if rain catches me out there.
On dry pavement, they are chiclee as they say in Spanish as Chewing gum.

Has anyone tried the M&H Racemaster?
The DOT street version has more tread then the M/T does.
I was looking to give these a try.

I use them. Been using them on this car since 2004. Due for a new set and I'm going to replace them with the same tire.

What size rear wheel and backspace, would work best on a Demon/Duster
with the above mentioned QTP tire?? I have a stock width 8-3/4 with a
4.10 and automatic, and stock leaf spring location. I was thinking of using these tires too??

Same ones I use at the strip for my Mustang, Don. That tread depth scared me, so I also have a set of 295/55/15 M/T ET Street S/S that I use for the street.

Re: Which street drag tires? - 03/11/18 05:50 AM
Yes, I would like to hear how it's easy as well. I spent years trying to hook a radial on a pretty nasty 6spd Fbody GM...going against other racer's advice in the process. When I finally did switch to ET Drag Bias Plys, my 60ft dropped 2 tenths immediately. More importantly it stayed consistent. When trying to launch a manual, track prep, pressure, and suspension are a magical combination. And, that combination usually only works on that track on that day. No doubt, they have the potential to go faster, but save yourself the headaches and run bias plys.

I've bracket raced more than one 4 speed car when I was a lot younger and willing to do the maintenance needed to do that, no more
My last halfway fast(9.99 in the 1/4 cork up through the air cleaner with full exhaust N/A
) pump gas street car with a good converter and a 727 tranny would get real ugly in a heartbeat at speeds above 55 MPH when I went to WOT on a less than perfect surface road on M/T ET Street Radials, not so on the same size ET Street bias plys
Trust me on this, don't get hurt trying to make a radial hook up on a high HP street car under normal driving conditions unless their real big and wide

Dang, you had to ask me lol. Yes stock axles. I honestly dont remember if it was 4.5 or 5.5 backspace. i will ask some buddies who have done the same thing, i am pretty sure 4.5 but dont want to swear to it

Re: Which street drag tires? - 03/11/18 05:03 PM
I am curious if ANY of you with over 500 HP can hook from a dead stop???
I have ET Street R's bias and I cant hook down low whatsoever.I av roll out in 1st and short shift 2nd then roll into it hard so 2/3s of the way through 2nd I'm at WOT then click high and stay hooked,,,most of the time.
Also use 31 X 16.5's. Ay the track I use 10.5w M\T and they work very good

My 517 C.I. six pack piump gas motor made over 600 HP to the flywheel and 545HP to the rear tires on a dyno jet chassis dyno here in Bend several years back,
The M/T 13x31x15 ET street bias tires would almost dead hook at 9.0 lbs. on 10 inch wide wheels on my old Duster on the street, 1/2 to 3 turns max
weighing 3450 Lbs. total ready to race with 50.7 % weight on the front tires
I raced it with all three sets of tires on the car, the bias plies 13x31x15 ET street tires where the slowest ET and MPH at the track and the 315x60x15 M/T ET Street Radials ET and MPH where almost identical to the 10.5x31x15 M/T drag race slicks, the car would cross the finish line at 6500 RPM at 134.+ MPH with the slicks and cross at 7000 RPM with the ET Street Radials at almost the same MPH and ET
I never drove that car with slicks on the road so no input about that
I do like the M/T ET Street bias ply tires better on the street with decent HP compared to the M/T ET Street radials I used

67 barracuda. Dana narrowed 4"/side, minnie tub, 15x10-3.5bs with a 28x14.50x15 QTP. Biggest tire that will fit in there. Just to give an idea.

Yes. It had been a while since i had that car( 70 b3 duster with W5 motor, many members here know the car)
If you want to see what the tires look like on it..... go to youtube.....” don’s wheelstand”
You can see how the tires fit. They were Just barely inside the wheel lips. Again 10 inch wheel in the video, so tire lays out more than wgen i had 8 inch wheels on it several years earlier
With more backspace tire would rub to inside on s/s springs. Its important tire is centered in wheelwell

My car might make 450 crank hp, it’s a 72 swinger with a 383, 4 speed with McLeod clutch, 4.56 gears and a spool, ss springs and 90/10 Calvert shocks up front. 255/60/15 mickey Thompson drag radials and I promise if your trying to hook on the street the MT drag radials aren’t the way to go, they are an awesome tire but a stick car on the street isn’t going to hook very well with them.
From a stop if I dump the clutch it’s useless, from a 10mph 1st gear roll it spins 1st 2nd and into 3rd, from a 2nd gear roll it’s ok. After my radials burn off I’m going to try a bias slick. If someone can hook a stick car to the street through the drag radials please fill me in lol
