I have a stock 1966 440 short block........ - 02/21/18 04:32 AM

I re-ringed it and put new bearings in it. Want to add a comp cams 292H .501 lift cam, An edelbrock performer rpm manifold with a 750 dp, 1 3/4 headers. 727 with a TCI street fighter converter. 4.10 gear, 28X10 quick time pros. What aluminum heads would you use with this setup? It is a drag car only and I have all of these parts already. Just looking for some heads.

I would buy the Trick Flow 240 heads. Bolt em on and have fun.

Eddy 75 CC heads or 80 CC 440 Source heads up
The carb and exhaust are smaller than I would use for a drag only car but the parts you have aren't a really bad start, go for it up
Make sure and degree that cam in so the intake lobe center is advanced at least 4 degrees up to 6 degrees advanced to help the bottom end with that converter up
BTW, did that motor come out of a Chrysler or Imperial? Is it TNT motor? Did you measure how far down the pistons are from the block deck?
I've had several 1966 440 blocks that came out of Imperials and Chryslers, one of them was a August of 1966 casting date so it went into a 1967 car, not a 1966 production Mopar work

What is stamped into the ID pad opposite the distributor? Have a picture?

I bought it 20 years ago. Ran it with a MP 509 cam, stock heads and torker intake for 2 years. Same other parts I will be reusing. Ran 12.0's @ 114. I don't have access to the block. It's in storage. I have no idea what the ID pad had on it. No pics. I thought maybe I could get it into the mid 11's with the better intake and heads. I have access to some bigger headers. Always looking for other converters too.

I like the trick flow 240 heads but was wondering if they are a bit much for what I'm doing

For what your doing I'd go the 440 source stealth route. If you plan on increasing HP down the road I'd go with the Trick Flow 240's. I went 11.0s with a stock bottom end (Stock crank, rods and yes pistons (dumb, but I did it)) 67 motor and .533 hydraulic cam, older weiand single plane intake, 750 DP, 2" Hooker fender wells and 3250lb race weight.

Dusterkid, that combo sounds good. What was your trap speed? 440 source has the stealth heads on sale now for $500 each. Hard to pass on that deal! I was aLso looking at tti $$$ HEADERS IN 2". don't want to cut up my inner fenders. If iI could find a used set I would be thrilled

2" headers are too big for what you're building. 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" max.
I feel the Trick Flow 240s are good for that combo.

If I remember right it was 119-120ish.

To me its hard to beat the price of the 440 stealth's for a mild build. $1000 for a set and basically bolt on. I did upgrade mine to 10 degree locks, but did that when I switched to a larger .590 camshaft.

I'm assuming your going to be installing this in your dart? Just from my perspective use the 1 7/8". As said the 2" are probably going to be to big for that combo. I kind of went thru the same boat. Used to have 2" Fender well's, installed down snout bars and went to a taller front tire, so bought a set of 2" TTI headers. I just changed my heads to the Trick Flow 240's and installed 1 3/4 TTI's because I had them and they are a little easier to work with compared to the 2" and I have my inner fenders removed. You'll prob see the 2" ones of mine up for sale soon if you decide you want to go that route.

an8sec70cuda, Thanks for the input. Love your car. DusterKid,it would be going in my Dart. Besides the powerport 240 heads and 1 3/4 headers what is the rest of your combo and what does she run after the head swap?

Not sure, just bought the heads this winter and going to try a bigger carb, will hopefully find out here in March at a Test n Tune.

Old Combo was a 440, .030 over 10.3:1, .590 solid cam, 440 source heads that had a little bit of porting done, 440 Victor Intake and a 750 DP, 2" TTIs went 10.80's with that combo on a good day.

New combo is a 440 .040 10.9:1, .557 solid cam (smaller than before but short block was already together). Trickflow 240, Victor 440 Intake , going to try the 750DP as a baseline than swap a 850 Proform on it and see how that does and using 1 3/4" TTIs.
