Southern nats?

Southern nats? - 01/28/18 05:15 PM

I know it's hoping against hope,,,,but still hoping this will come back, or something else.

Don't care about what date, would just like to see some event to fill the hole.

Anyone thought about it, or heard of anything?

We have really nothing down here, and tons of mopar cars.

I asked at the gate at Orlando a few months ago and was told they are planning on bringing it back. But I'll feel better if it can be periodically confirmed. I hope I'll remember to ask again the next time I'm there.

UPDATE: They do have it listed! May 26-27.

You wouldn't be able to call it The Southern Nationals, that would be an inflammatory name.

Re: Southern nats? - 01/29/18 05:59 PM

South Ga from NY is for sure a haul.

One of the better tracks, with entirely paved pits, and it'll be warm lol.

The event in the past (in my opinion) was lacking some things that would make it more appealing.

Shutting the track down as soon as the last race pass was made wasn't a good thing. I understand it keeps the help there longer, but if cars stop going down the track mid day saturday it becomes a quiet parking lot with little to do or see. Almost everyone I spoke to felt the same. Keeping the track open for test passes would be a great, and draw people that just want to blast down the track. I would, like most i think pay a bit more to keep the track open till maybe 9 or 10pm. Or if no one wants to run ok shut down.

The last year it ran they kind of gave us the bums rush to get it over with. I'll be trying to talk to whom ever I can to try and correct that if possible. I'll even sponsor a class if necessary.

A big crowd would go along way to keeping it a float, and fun.

Need to get some diapers on cars too. The oil down delays are a huge drag.

ALL are great thoughts/ideas. It reminds me the one year Steff invited me out to a Mopar race at Indy. It was the first year the Roadrunner had the 6.1L...This was before Josh ran the event, and I still remember the event shutting down around 6pm? on a Saturday night! Beautiful weather etc. just dead silence...it felt so wrong that it ended so early when it would seem easy to 'buy' more track time for testing or gamblers etc.

That was MMW Indy, Sept. 2011. That was Josh's race before he took over Norwalk.

Re: Southern nats? - 01/30/18 02:43 AM

Keeping the track open late saturday would help. Racing would be more enjoyable too if the staff already planned for a late evening, so no bums rush back to the lanes.

Buy backs, quick 8, gamblers, time passes, testing, playing.

That would also encourage me to bring more than one car (and pay more as a result) if I could have time after racing to work on, or play with another.

I have spoken with a few friends who would bring multiple cars if they'd at least offer it.

Also if possible allow tech inspections on Friday test and tune to lessen the load on sat, and sun.

I'd like to sponsor a diapers only class lol. Then maybe 1 round could be done without a mop.

Does anyone have a contact for the folks putting on the race? I'd like to inquire about sponsoring some part.

Re: Southern nats? - 03/12/18 05:21 AM

They still have T/N/T listed for the 25th, Mopar race listed for 26 and 27th of May. I don't have a clue who sponsors it now. I dont't think the South Ga Mopar association does anymore. Have you tried contacting anyone at SGMP? Maybe on their Facebook page you could get a reply??

Re: Southern nats? - 05/28/18 11:25 PM

I used to come to this show almost every year even when it was in Reynolds. I even sponsored some classes. But it will be a cold day in Hades before I come to Valdosta in August. Used to live there and it is to hot at 8 am.This is not good for the show or its future. Heck push it out till late fall or winter if you have to.
