1st time out with a trans brake , woh

1st time out with a trans brake , woh - 01/15/18 10:43 PM

well finally got everything together on Saturday . First t&t for the year only full day one before championship starts in feb .
I must say it is different than the last 12 or so years of footbraking .
Tree was run on pro tree so that didn't help .
Weather was terrible , 91-101F 3500-4100DA and blowing a gale almost direct headwind .
Leaving at 3300 only car got within 0.005 of best ever sixty, went 1.480 , and ran et similar to what it ran at 2900-3000DA with no head wind .Best 10.718@14.19 3700DA , I think wind eased otherwise ran 123mph's
So that appears a good improvement , will be good to see how it goes with a bit cooler and no wind .
BUT
darn does the motor zing up with the new 8" converter . Certainly hits the shift light faster/earlier . Completely different to my old trans/vert , so I will need to make a fast adjustment .
Not sure whether I may raise the shift a little as am only shifting at 6000
May also move button from shifter area ? but think I will try a street meet to double check

Did you footbrake on any of the runs?
A lot racers say et same brake vs footbrake, but reaction time better.lots of adjustable buttons to dial in RT

Dude! I'd say you're pretty much getting nearly the best of it for that mph! The heat and adjusted altitude is killing it. Did you have fun letting go of the button? How many times did you practice holding it on the chip before you went to the line the first time? grin Did you get a chance to try a different launch rpm? Staging is super important for lowering 60's. A guy on here running no electronics bumps their cars in with the trans. brake button and they are pretty darn successful at it.

to me, using the transbrake for the first time felt like getting a swift kick in the shorts, love it and swore off footbraking for ever.

Re: 1st time out with a trans brake , woh - 01/16/18 12:56 AM

no footbrake passes , got to get my act together . No adjustable buttons allowed in my class . Just using a Dedenbear .
Never tried it on the chip before the first pass . Tried 3100 then stayed with 3300 launch . Too much to get used to .Just shallow staged like footbraking .
Yes it felt like someone rear ended me .
Dustin , thanks , I want to do my best to replicate last season .
Car still launches square

From the pic the car could use a little less separation in the rear. Tighten up the extension on the shock.

Isn't the same force that is pushing the body up also planting the rear?
That baby looks good

Dave , it is a radial tyre car . I have left same shock settings as footbrake
if there was more testing I would certainly try tighter

Thump ,
I lost my 8 3/4 quite few years ago , love my S60 no more worries .
Hopefully a little more seat time , better weather and experimentation will help reach my goal . 1.45 sixty would be good

Re: 1st time out with a trans brake , woh - 01/16/18 07:42 AM

Turn the stall RPM up to 4200 RPM and see what effect that has on the 60 ft. times scope If it stick then try 4400 RPM devil If it spins at 4200 try 4000 RPM thumbs
Sometimes getting rid of the flash stall helps our old Mopars 60 ft. better, depending on the chassis shruggy

don't forget that being "on the brake" will send your trans to the moon in short order..... just food for thought.

I was curious as I thought you were very close to a 1.45 sixty already. And 1.47 is on par for your et. My best is 1.50 with the SS springs but I average about 1.52. Ron

I know a guy locally with a big ol’ 67 GTX that runs a transbrake with an 8-3/4. Car runs mid 10’s and carries the front end. He says the car has always had one and he’s worn out gear sets, but has never “broke” one..... Wha’dya say, Dom? devil
