w2 dual plane intake confusion, question.

w2 dual plane intake confusion, question. - 12/17/17 07:54 AM

I'm looking for a dual plane for a mile 340 W2-econo head motor.

I'm looking at these 2 MP intake manifolds. I can't quite figure out the difference between the 2. Anyone with MP and W2 knowledge know the difference?

Mine are old oval port econo's from 78.

That's the same intake, part #'s are the same.

This was the other one.

I think I see that the deck height is different. 9.60 stock, while this one is listed as 9.20.

Yep, the deck height is the difference.

How difficult would it be to adapt a performer rpm to w2 heads?

I have one of those W2 dual planes, it's a on an R3 48 degree race motor a bought a couple years ago, it's 9.2 but I think it was a 9.58" that was bridgeported down,

I think in certain circle track classes the W2 was allowed, provided you ran a dual plane intake with them.

Frackster - There would be drilling to match some of the intake bolt holes as well as aluminum welding and porting to match the port shapes.

It might be easier to port out any mismatch on the head side if there is enough material there. But it would be kind of a tacky way of doing it. It's been a while since I had some. An Air-Gap might be better, especially since W-2's don't have a heat crossover anyway.

Doesn't Indy or someone else make an aluminum dual plane for W-2's as well as Mopar?

Chrysler and/or Mopar racers did that to a few LD340's in the infancy of the W-2 program before there were any manifolds for them.

I had a modded Victor 340 on my W2 way back in the early 80's, went to a strip dominator later but they ran about the same

Holley made a Street and a strip dominator which are about identical except the strip was an air gap and the street has a water heated passway under the plenum, the runners look essentially the same. I have a Street Dominator on my 440 W2 smallblock..they are pretty rare.

I actually have one of the W2 Pro Dominator Tunnel Rams sitting on my workbench, It's definately one of the coolest-looking Manifolds ever made, it's more or less "Wall Art" for now, lol

I run the first gen W-2s on my Challenger T/A. Ryan at Shady Dell modified the heads to accept the stock intake bolt pattern and then oval ported the intake. He has done a few. Oh, by the way, My T/A won 1st place at Garlits in E-Body stock class. the judges never caught it. It also has run 11 second ETs at 116 MPH at over 3500lbs.
I also have a Holley Pro Dominator intake. I threw it on for giggles with the 770 cross ram carbs off my Hemi and it was a rocket. It all fit under the stock T/A hood also. never took that combo to the track.

I love the W2's, I remember my 69 Dart W2 4 speed with 4.30 gears was nearly unbeatable on the street way back when.

I also remember a local street racer with a green 67 Charger 4 speed pulled his 440 out to replace it with a W2 340!!

I've got a 10:1 440" (360 based) W2 motor with a small 251/259@.050 Bullet roller I built as a tribute to my old racing days.
