Does anyone currently make light weight stock replacement E body Spindles? or has any one had luck trimming their stock ones up? It just seems like a huge piece of metal that needs to go on a diet

I'm sure there are places that can stand to be dieted safely, but I've seen too many "lightened" suspension parts that look like suicide attempts.
Got a good picture? I may be able to spot something.

The late model FMJ knuckles are significantly lighter than the early knuckles. It appears that someone at Mopar finally took a class on FEM and used it on those knuckles. The weight savings isn't huge, maybe 1.5 lbs per side but it is already done for you.

i had the spindles off my car recently (FMJ spindles) and they didn't seem a like an excessively heavy part given their purpose...

another question, with the FMJ spindles being a bit taller than the A body spindles, does that equate to slightly less negative camber being dialed into the suspension?

Have you removed the safety crash bars out of the doors? They're pretty heavy.

Well, you can get FG e-body bumpers, fenders, lexan windows, FG dash...What's the interior look like?

If I were the track/racing venue attorney, I would make sure that "modifications to suspension parts constitute participatory liability assigned to the driver/owner in a crash" appears in the release form.
If it's neither OEM nor SEMA they will blame you if it fails.

The solution: blend and radius any metal removal and repaint!

I took a pound out of each spindle on my car. Then got yelled at on here. I run wilwoods so no need for all that metal for caliper bracket

Shame on you Ray. Make sure you let the track owners know, wherever you race.

but she's so sexy! And after having it for 34 years my wife would kill me. However I could picture myself throwing this combo in a little Daytona

Yeah, and everybody knows there isn't an A-Body on the planet as Sexy as an E-Body. Thats just how it is.

Re: Does Anyone Make Light Weight E body Spindles? - 11/25/17 05:57 PM

My 73 Cuda only weighed 2130, of course the whole body was fiberglass.LOL
An E-body is only 4-5 inches wider and maybe a little shorter than an A-body, can't see 300 lbs difference both cars being equal with the same weight removed( fenders, doors, trunk). Now full car as built, could be.

"590 crapbox Daytona" doesn't have the same ring to it and you would have to call it that to differentiate from the REAL Daytonas. hammer

Drum brake spindles are lighter but would need a different caliper adapter.

Grind on them, radius the corners, then shot peen them to harden the surface.
Magnaflux for cracks first.

My Duster could handle all that power. Car was over built for what I use it for. ...And its for sale. Weighs 2700ish without me. Still has steel fenders and doors with roll up windows.

Re: Does Anyone Make Light Weight E body Spindles? - 11/26/17 12:00 AM

Thanks but I just think I will try to shave a few pounds this winter. I'm also cutting the engine down to a 528, adding aluminum rods, raising the compression, uping it from 30 to 45 pounds of boost, hoping to stuff it into the lower half of the 4's next season. Time will tell

In the picture, the bolt attachment points are entirely in shear and can have much less material around them, grind off the excess.
The arch going to the ball joint is more dangerous.

That metal is also unsprung weight (same as wheel and rotor), extra benefit to lightness, helps tire grip.

Have you looked at using spindles from an old A body that had 9" drum brakes?
