Twin turbo set up - 11/09/17 08:35 PM

I'm putting together a basically stock 360 mag with a good set of heads and a custom ground cam.the package will go in a 72 dart for street and strip.I'm new to the turbo world and I'm wanting to build a twin turbo setup. I only plan on spinning it to 6000 and want to run 10lbs-12lbs of boost without a lot of lag...can someone please tell me which turbos I need to buy before I buy the wrong ones?

You're best off to talk to whoever you are getting the turbos from. For your goals a single is plenty.

If you're on a budget, a couple of 67 mm On3 ball bearing turbos would work well. http://www.on3performance.com/shop/on-3-performance-67mm-ceramic-ball-bearing-turbocharger/ You didn't specify a HP goal, but something in the 61MM to 70MM range should work with that size motor.

Stock motor probably won't handle very much hp or boost.I was kinda thinking of running 10lbs of boost and make 550-600 hp. I was more worried about the lag and looking for something that spoiled quick.

The reason for twin is because I'm going to build a real motor after I play for a little while and figure everything out.figured I might as well set it up now.

I did the same thing. I found out you lift the heads at 30 psi on a big block lol

How much power are you planning on in the future? A t4 based single can support a LOT of power, no reason for twins unless you're thinking 1500hp+ R3 block build. And even then it's probably going to end up with a head on it that would require the hot side to be rebuilt.

If you're just looking for 500hp now, n9 reason to have all of the complexity associated with twins.

If spool is ultra important, you want to keep the turbine small. But it will limit the peak power. What goes in, must come out!

If you're talking stock block in the future, you'll never need more then a single turbo even if you get a bigger one in the future.

I bought the 78/75 .96ar
But wish now I would have bought the 80mm 1.10ar turbo.
I see he also has 80mm or 88mm billets with 1.25ar.
All T4 flange.

I may buy a 2nd 78/75 later to put on my 451bb and then choose a new one for the smallblock after testing this one out to see if I need to step up or down in size for a street driver.

Hey dizuster.
Not to hijack thread but I got my girdle in the mail from hughes last week and sent my 650 carb off to Eric.

Also dropped my crank off at the machine shop for machining and balance.

Ouch $299 just for the balance job. Yikes!!!

Nope,
work 50hrs a week and then babysit my 2yo daughter on weekends because my wife works.

Been watching drag races instead. lol

Going to this Saturday, wife will be working and she hates going to races anyway. LOL
Last weekend a guy from work lost $200 when he fell asleep at the line on his bike.

Had been knocking down consistent 4.80's @141 but when the $$ was on the line he was left snoozing.
Oops.

His brother runs an S10 that goes 5.20's using an old SB2 nascar engine and a little NOS. ;-)

megasquirt3x ecm, jeep cam sensor replace dist,ls1 coils, mercedes 36-1 wheel welded on stock crank pulley,2 eBay t45 turbos 200bucks each two eBay 60mm waistegates,eBay block headers flipped and rewelded not pretty, used 3000 rpm stall, put set 3.55 gears in my dana, did put in water meth no air to air winter has hit but i did put about a hundred miles on it cruise ins and car show, brought to dyno last week to get some tuning done 9psi boost 561rwhp no meth or cooler as going to add air to water this winter these turbos have huge housings so boost is in around 3700 i will change turbos this winter to achieve boost lower rpms,i got to take it out for the first time yesterday and have to say i was very impressed my stoker 512 that ran 10.30s didn't pull like this,it idles like a kitten and torque is incredible
im not looking to make anymore power as i know my bock is limited but to think low compression, small cam, stock 290cfm heads, can produce this kind of power ya I'm going bigger on next build:)

I pushed a stock block with Indy heads to 30 PSI. Block is still good. Lifted the heads is all I have ever done. But I have good rods 😯

Re: Twin turbo set up - 11/11/17 04:42 PM

Yes, Cometic. Stock 440 block, indy heads with studs, 30 PSI boost from a turbo. Never hurt anything, just seen black combustion gasses on the motor plate and mid plate at the head and block parting line. It only leaked under hi boost.
