Silicone and sealers talk. Small block

Hi guys tell me which silicone and sealer you like to use it on. Various Gaskets on small blocks Oil pan ,rear main seal, front cover etc. etc. thanks
Mopar or no car !

The two that I've used most recently have been Permatex Ultra Black, which they state is intended for sealing oil pans, etc, and their Hi Temp Red, which has been my standard go-to RTV for engine assembly. I'm sure there are other good products, too.

I use Ultra copper where the ends of the rear main seals meet the gaskets, a small amount around the wet holes on the timing cover and a bead in place of the end seals on the intake.

Valco Cincinnati All-In-One Aluminum Silicone.

Gas A Cinch (SP?) for sealing and sticking all the gaskets on except the head gaskets and rear main seals
Adhesive silicone only for BB rear main seal holder to the block to seal up the side seals and in the corners of the intake manifolds and or valley pans
Thermostat silicone on the water pump and thermostat housing gaskets

Gasgacinch, Cab. I think it still comes in that old-style can with the big ol' dauber.
Ultra Black, clear silicone for intakes, Hi-Temp Copper for headers (trued surfaces, no gaskets, adapter plates & Stahls on my car)

The only thing I ever use anymore is Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket. A thin coat brushed on the gasket and allowed 10 minutes to tack up. There is a place for silicone from time to time, but this stuff works and stays tacky, never hardens.

None of you use "The Right Stuff"? I used it for everything on my 400 and am super impressed with it. Not cheap though...

It is really good stuff, just gotta be careful what you use it on, it almost welds parts together.

I use Permatex Ultra black on most stuff, and the gray on parts that I don't want to take apart for a long time, it is fairly hard to get apart too sometimes on certain things.

I prefer Black Silicone (16B) over the Ultra Black. But I have been using the Gray more here lately, depending on the application. I'm not a big fan of smearing that stuff all over everything. Just a touch on the rear seal and rear cap joints. A dab in the corners of the pan gasket, end seal joints. The ends of the intake. Maybe a smear around the water passage areas of the timing cover if it shows any corrosion damage. That's it.

used the right stuff one time and swore it off the first time I had to dis assemble it, I think welding the intake on would of been easier to take off.

I replaced the water pump with the stuff on there. I didn't notice any difference from regular black or whathaveyou???

Try removing the oil pan or valve covers or valley pan with that stuff on the gaskets It ain't right after all on them

Is this blue? If so, I think Permatex used to call it Hylomar. It's the only gasket sealer I use anymore.

Hylomar is still available, but comes from England and is pretty spendy.

More recently, I've used Permatex Ultra Black Or the High Temp Red. I do like using Right Stuff on differential covers.

What I've found as I've gotten older is that high quality gaskets are usually the most important thing for proper seal.

Permatex makes a sealer specifically for the chemicals in gear oil for rear end applications.

I remember Mopar carried different kinds for axle, trans., oil, etc... I think I used them all with success at one time or another. If this is a race only engine that comes out of the car and apart every year you could probably get away with anything. If you are depending on sealant to take the place of a gasket? I recommend The Right Stuff. For little tacky-tac here or there to help gaskets? Then use what is made for that app or The Right Stuff, sparingly.
