Double adjustable rear coilover shocks - 10/29/17 10:05 PM

Thinking about going from QA-1 Rear coilover single adjustables to the Qa-1 double adjustables. Are the QA-1's any good? Do you have to use double on the front also when using double rear?

How fast is the car?

You get what you pay for work
if it is a fairly fast, mid tens in the 1/4 mile, I would look at the best D.A. shocks I could afford.
I really like the Strange double adjustable I had on my old pump gas Duster, they where 15.5 extended and around 7.0 inch fully compressed, I started with a 170 lb. spring and changed to a 150 and finally a 130 lb. springs up scope

Car is mid 9 sec car. Has 130 lb. springs and
" they where 15.5 extended and around 7.0 inch fully compressed"

How do I know which ones to get? They have a bunch of Ext/comp listed in Summit.
Thanks Mike

Call all the shock companies, Strange, Afco, Santuff, QA1 and so on, you would buy from and ask them for there opinions and recommendations and then decide twocents scope

That’s how I decided on my Vikings. A call to them was well worth my time.

Do you have ladder bars? Ladder bars need a VERY good, custom valved shock if you are running a lot of SLR or lots of torque, and I am guessing you have both.

Yes Greg. 36 in. ladder bars 572 motor at 3560 lbs.
Do I need to run doubles on front also if I put them on the rear?

Doubles on the front let you control compression and rebound separate. I personally like to be able to do that.

Similar to what I have now - I switched from QA1 sa to Afco da on all 4 corners. I still have had only a limited amount of testing but can say with these shocks I can see a change good/bad with every adjustment. I could not say that about the QA1's

In my case I needed double adjustable front shocks to handle the landing after a wheel stand. Better to be certain you bought the right shocks than to have to do it twice.

Mid 9 second horsepower @ 3560# with ladderbars. 3 speed? The cheapest shock I would consider is an Afco with Big Gun valving. I can't imagine any other sub $800/pair, off the shelf unit having a chance with that combination, unless it had the valving upgraded. And then they may not last long.

15.5" extended is a short shock. Does the car have adjustable shock mounts? I'd want to see a 17" shock like the 3850BG Afco on there at about 13.75 or 14" installed at ride height.

130# spring at that weight is awfully soft unless the car is really heavy on the nose. I assume the spring is wound way up to get ride height at any acceptable shock C-C length. We have guys that heavy with 150s and even 170s but not 130s. A 130 spring would maybe be OK if it had no power, no gear and a 4 link, maybe.

Dude! iagree I love the AFCO shocks I put on my Challenger. At 2,800# with more than 50% on the rear I seriously needed the adjustment. Single adjustable, no bueno.
