Mega blocks, some different quality?

I bought a mega block way back in about 2,000 (AD!)
Any body know of differences in quality over the years they were cast? I don't here much about some of the issues I have had, like cap walk and cylinder bank to bank flex? I got around both, ccw crank for the caps, no gasket, used silicone for intake sealing.

IIRC Mopar had 3 or 4 different casting runs and 3 different places that machined the blocks. They should have added stiffing ribs in the valley and another set of vertical bolts to at least the center 3 main to solve these issues.

I though some needed the lifter bore angle corrected?

My Hemi 4.500" Bore block is an 07'ish vintage. No casting or machining issues at all with mine during the machining process other then our machine shop complaining how they chewed up tooling & had to slow down the speed & feeds of all of our machines due to the higher/better nickel content within the cast iron. They were all amazed when compared to the 1000's of Dart/World & other aftermarket & stock blocks we machine.

All of the Mega/World block I have used and been involved with ALL showed signs of cap walk and main bearing wear. The single best change we made was switching to a center counter weighted crank..But what do I know.

Same hear on the crank. My block has no extra stiffening ribs in the valley, and it sucked gaskets in so I went silicone, no gasket. I run injection, so if it leaks, it isn't as hard to deal with. Haven't had issues yet though.

Mine showed some metal transfer when I got the short block used. Mainly on the #1/#5 cap. Crank was out of balance over 50 grams on each end. It was rebalanced, the last freshen-up looked better. Never any other issues. did the metal transfer hurt anything? Main bearing needed replacement after 300 passes. been going strong another 200+. It is the later foundry marking. well over 10 years old. Holds good ring seal.

They were actually both the older casting ones as well. Non stiffening rib versions like DVM posted..Had to go back and look at the pics..
