Pump Gas - Brand vs HP?

Anyone see any HP difference between different brands?

Chevron with Techron dude! I'm sure back in the day with all the leaded "ethyl" there might be a conversation here.

I have done 5 drag weeks so my car has had about every brand of pump gas run through it at some point. Any ET variance I have had between tracks has usually been a result of the weather. My combo doesn't seem to care, 91, 93, Ethanol or No Ethanol it runs the same.

My best timeslips (9.5s at 140 mph) on pump gas were using no name 93 pump premium from Sparky's fireworks...store right up the road from my house, lol. Runs just as good on that as it does w/ any other brand in it. I really don't think it matters.

I have been using Sunoco Ultra 93 and Marathon 93.
I my area they are the two brands that have the least amount of alcohol.
I have not seen any difference in e.t. between the two.

A couple (few?) decades back, David Vizard did a lot of research on different brands of pump fuel looking to see if there were any differences worth knowing. He did publish some interesting stuff (e.g., some fuels ran better w/ cooled induction systems while others lost less power when the induction was heated) on it. However, it's so out of date that I'd question if anything he found during that effort still applies.

The other thing I can only wonder about, since I'm not in that industry, is if there are more govt. restrictions that reduce the variances in how different oil companies blend their fuels for modern cars. If there is any truth to that, then that fits in w/ some peoples' experiences that brand didn't make a difference.

FWIW, I tried to stay w/ Sunoco and Shell when possible, if only because they both still offer 93 in my area and they're two of the closet stations to my home.

I run shell or Texaco 100 low lead in anything that sits or requires performance..Maverik 91 alcohol free in everything else

I would think it would depend a lot on combo and tune. If it is tuned a little lean, alcohol in the gas may make it leaner and hurt... and vica versa. My E runs FI and adjusts pretty well. No "seat of pants" difference.

My 505 and g/f 383 both use Sunaco 93.
Timing at 33-34
No problems on the street or track.
Race on Sunaco 93.
On the street i've used Speedway and off brand 93 with no ill effect.

Depends on if you are optimizing the time for each fuel. While most pump fuel will likely be similar, there is a difference between E0 and E10. Besides the stoich AFR being different, I have seen some knock benefit from the E10 in Dyno testing. Gained 1-2 degrees spark before detonation. This is huge on a high specific power turbo engine.

Just a side note. Came across a YT video of a small motor review of gasoline from 10% to E85. According to him, more ethanol does not harm your rubber parts. 10% has BTEX(benzene,toluene,ethylene and xylene) additive that swells rubber parts. Trying to make the point that its BTEX and not the ethanol that kills hoses and carbs.VP C11 makes my car run hotter and slower and Sunoco 110 runs cooler and faster. I mix 50/50 leaded and 93 pump with no ill effects. The BG 400 pump does not like 10%(or more E) pump gas. I do run the bowls dry after a day at the track.
