I was involved in a fire in my top alcohol dragster. The 11 gal fuel tank is in the front, did a wheel stand and when the front end came down it broke the front A arm and punctured the methanol fuel tank. I was going about 200 mph before I realized what happened. It burned my entire car to the ground, everything including half the body panels had to be replaced and a new paint job.
I got all of the work done in 2 weeks with lots of help and was at the next race. I had a refrigerator white dragster that I painted myself but we were at the next race ready to race.
This is the car 2 weeks after a huge fire that burnt every wire, safety blanket off my car including all my personal fire gear had to be replaced. It saved my life.
I had sponsor commitments, I got there decals on my white plain jane dragster in time for the next race. I raced 24/7 for 15 or more years. I mean 24/7, lived and had my race shop at work.
This is the same car 2 weeks prior at Quaker city dragway where the fire happened. Not sure if this is the actual pass or not when the fire happened? The big guy in the back of the car was the chassis builder. He felt bad that the front end broke. He built me a new fuel tank and body panels and repaired the A arm with in a week so I could get them painted. I had lots of good help to race at that level. I actually have some video tape somewhere I bet of the actual pass because Don's wife used to take videos and he gave me copy's over the years. But now I don't have a VCR player to play them in anymore.
