The dude was lucky, He was a good driver in the fact he got himself out of that inferno, he got the chutes out pretty fast and got it slowed enough to "bail"

Sucks to see the car trashed...wonder what the cause of the fire was?

Yea kind of crazy to chase after that inferno... blush

That's some pathetically slow response from the safety crew!

Here's the correct way to exit a squirrely race car.

What a POS! A slow car that basically fell apart half-way down the track. It's bad enough that those 'tri-five' cars have windows that just pop out and doors that fly open in the most minor of fender-benders. Good to see the driver standing up. There are more videos like this floating around. My brother had a '56 take off without him after he flew out the drivers door.

I've said it before, and I will say it again. I hope people have learned from Lyle Barnett's fire and start taking safety equipment more seriously.

I believe that car had all the safety equipment you can get. Extremely well built car and on par with some of the top cars in the country.

That may be. But we see incidents like this and then still have constant butthurt and conspiracy theories here over belt rules, helmet rules, diaper rules and anything else that costs money or time or effort to make the car safer.

Re: any see this ricky bobby moment - 09/24/17 12:51 PM

I was involved in a fire in my top alcohol dragster. The 11 gal fuel tank is in the front, did a wheel stand and when the front end came down it broke the front A arm and punctured the methanol fuel tank. I was going about 200 mph before I realized what happened. It burned my entire car to the ground, everything including half the body panels had to be replaced and a new paint job.

I got all of the work done in 2 weeks with lots of help and was at the next race. I had a refrigerator white dragster that I painted myself but we were at the next race ready to race.
This is the car 2 weeks after a huge fire that burnt every wire, safety blanket off my car including all my personal fire gear had to be replaced. It saved my life.
I had sponsor commitments, I got there decals on my white plain jane dragster in time for the next race. I raced 24/7 for 15 or more years. I mean 24/7, lived and had my race shop at work.

This is the same car 2 weeks prior at Quaker city dragway where the fire happened. Not sure if this is the actual pass or not when the fire happened? The big guy in the back of the car was the chassis builder. He felt bad that the front end broke. He built me a new fuel tank and body panels and repaired the A arm with in a week so I could get them painted. I had lots of good help to race at that level. I actually have some video tape somewhere I bet of the actual pass because Don's wife used to take videos and he gave me copy's over the years. But now I don't have a VCR player to play them in anymore. laugh
