After watching SO- NOLA, I am embarrassed to be from Georgia - 08/08/17 12:43 PM

I had wondered if there were any cars still around capable of running with the SO guys (Oklahoma or NOLA) for some time now. I know that 25-30 yrs. ago there were some seriously bad-actor street cars running for big dollars, usually on Friday or Saturday night. Way above my pay-grade but I attended a few of them as a spectator.
Maybe they are still around and just don't want to associate with the SO crowd. work I can only hope so as that was most certainly the weakest turn-out I have ever seen. blush The cars I remember from back then would have had no trouble with that group.

The New Orleans shows is unwatchable.

I think cars in general are much faster these days then say 15-20 years ago when I was going to the track. It's like the hobby has shrunk, but those that have stayed in it are extremely dedicated and also dedicate lots of cubic dollars to it. If people in your area have let up in either category it follows they won't keep up with the hardcore group.

When I last went to the track a few years ago, I was blown away at the average effort I saw. It's not like you just build a new mill. The whole car has to be considered at the speeds I was seeing, when before the average and slow stuff was pedestrian fodder there to have a good time. Most of those guys have been squeezed out. Probably says something about the economy in general.

I find myself advancing through that show quite a bit with the ole dvr if I watch them at all. Something about it.... Kye Kelly's dry toast persona?? ....don't know if it's the people or what. That said I think some of the best shows have been when Jimmy da boss is present. That dude cracks me up! Really miss Monte's behind the scene commentary....

I have not watched the show yet, recorded it on my DVR, but those guys are regulars at pretty much all the tracks I go to.
Granted they are primarily "track" cars, but they are DEFINITELY FAST!!!
The blue truck, Andy Mack's "Bipolar", is bad fast...as well as the bumblebee Camaro (big blown hemi). Pretty sure it's been in the 3s in the 1/8. The truck isn't far behind.

I didn't realize until a couple of days ago that there was a new season of the NO show. I thought that thing was a one-season wonder, especially with Kelly flushing his "good husband" image down Lizzy Musi's toilet. In general that crew is just plain hard to watch when the cars aren't lining up.

Got a kick out of Taylors car last week IIRC. Had a carb engine in the chop and sitting on the street. Races blue Vette, twin turbo. HUH? Then the same night races again and has a single 4 on it. Talk about a quick engine swap turn around in a few minutes.

Great editing. LOL

It looked like they pulled that mustang right out of a junkyard to race the maverick. Could barely do a burnout.
I don't know what was worse, the mustang or the guy driving it. All the race was missing was "dueling banjos" playing in the background. cool

They were the only 2 that showed up and as you said, the truck had never been on the street. Kinda disappointed in the Camaros run but I'm guessing he had it dialed down to run on the street. shruggy

No cars, no money.... If you're gonna talk the talk, be sure you can walk the walk. up

i agree 100%. the other thing is the big guy Taylor, when he speaks, he says things in blocks like he's reading it once sentence at a time. drives me nuts. lol! they all would be better if they could just speak naturally and not scripted.

Re: After watching SO- NOLA, I am embarrassed to be from Georgia - 08/09/17 06:07 PM

One of the things I find interesting...... Along with that terrible editing job on Taylor's car a couple weeks ago(like no one would notice??)..... Is there were tons of trailers there for race night, and as the camera is panning down through, there were several cars there that we never heard a peep about.
Seemed like an awful lot of guys at the drivers meeting for like 4 cars worth of racing.

I watch it....... Fast fwd through most of it...... And if it went away, I'd be okay with that.
Of course..... That's pretty much how it is for me with the 405 show as well.

Re: After watching SO- NOLA, I am embarrassed to be from Georgia - 08/10/17 05:54 PM

OK, I finally watched it. It was horrible, lol.
It's bad when they come all the way from nola and can't get a race. Bad that the Georgia boys didn't have anyone else there to compete.
Bipolar is a bad ride and Andy seems like a good guy, he just needs more street practice.

I don't know the bumblebee Camaro guys at all, just seen the car around here a lot and know it's fast...on the track anyway. Looked like they took a LOT of power out of it for John Doe to drive around him like he did.

Dog...older guy w/ the blue Malibu, has been grudge racing forever...at the track. His cars run good, just bit off more than he could chew trying to run on the highway. He's quite the character, but keeps things fun.

That Luke Woody guy...never heard of him other than a video I saw a while back someone posted on the bullet I think that was him running his mouth. Honestly, when I saw it, I thought it was a joke. He seems like an idiot and his car is a pile. Never heard anything else about him until this tv show.

I can't decide between old reruns of WWE wrestling or street outlaws.
Not to say those cars aren't that fast, I have no doubt about how fast those cars are.... but like the old Super stock 60s guys, it wouldn't surprise me if there's some of that Hey so-so needs to win , here's 5k thanks for being here tonight, make sure you pull some timing between 3500-500k, make it look good but remember ..so-so gets the win.

I dont think the conversation for the "teams" from other states is centered so much around winning as much as......"what do we have to do to get on TV?"

Re: After watching SO- NOLA, I am embarrassed to be from Georgia - 08/10/17 09:21 PM

Dont any of you guys go out and participate or watch real street racing in your own communities?

The tv version is very silly, id like to see how that Jimmy dude is off camera or have him do the commentary.

From what we saw in this last episode , Getting on Tv is as easy thrash talk Kelly or one of his "list"cars bad enough over a6 month time period and offer over 5k cash.

This past weekend.
granted nothing faster than those guys...well the junk yard gas leaking reject mustang would of been beaten like smart car in the top fuel finals.
It has changed a lot in the last 20 years,
Not that I endorse street racing ... what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico...unless it's found on youtube

You're probably right.

Then when the challenge was accepted it was like....."uh oh.....now what do we do?"
"Don't worry...... Someone will want to be on tv"

I don't think the races themselves are fixed, but the matchups they choose get the results they want.

The mustang couldn't beat my dually, so that is a win for anybody in the other lane.

Taking super fast track only cars like promods and drivers racing on street for first time is 50-50 at best that they can make an A-B pass at all first time out.

JJ da boss, I would think will have at least a few of his own episodes, if not a new series. Entertaining and Memphis has actual fast street cars.

Definitely agree 95% , I think some of the "list" races might be a bit.....lets say nudged.

I would sooooooooooooo Watch a JJ Da Boss series, he reminds me of my grandfather , he could talk priest into lining up against a cop for doughnuts and donations

I'm with John on this one. Honestly don't think I could sit through an entire episode with JJ talking.

Then it would be like watching the NHRA.
Grudge/Street racing is just as much about the trash talk, as it is the actual racing. It's all to get into the other guys head, and make him do what you want.
Around here, it's not so much about having the faster car, it's about winning that $$$. A big part of that is the psych out game. Get the other guy to give you the race you want. Back tire stage, car lengths, the break, the clear, etc.
It's also why most grudge/street race have stipulations.
" a chase is a race" is a good example. if we are leaving off an arm drop, and i leave before he drops his arms, and you STAY there, i jumped.
However, if i leave before he drops his arms, and you FOLLOW me, then the race is ON, i didn't jump, because you chased me. That's done so one guy can try and leave early, and hope the other guys follows.

I've seen many races where the slower cars wins, all because of the spot/stipulations. I've also been paid well for it too. :-)

JJ is no worse then John Force, im always on the edge of the mute button, but good in small doses.

How about JJ vs JF in a verbal beat down then race, then more smack.... JF seems to be hit and miss...bad idea.

So you bracket street race. Lol. I'm glad we raced like men back in my street day's. First one to the finish line won, no bs just race. And we raced for fun not money
