Roadkill nights - 08/06/17 08:02 PM

Anyone get accepted to race on Woodward next weekend? From what I heard they only picked 150 cars.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/07/17 10:15 PM

Wish I could make it this year, but travels and work will keep me and the car away from the D all together.
Have fun fellas and most importantly, keep a third eye out for any drunk cars on the strip trying to make an impression. You don't want them making an impression on your side of the lane and fender or on the wall barriers. It's like a no-prep type of hole.
Lots of excitement.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/08/17 08:18 PM

So now that Road kill told everyone 150 cars max count for the racing event, now is when Road kill will bust it open because its going to be a cash cow and have 500 cars. I am out. hopefully I get my money back.

Sorry to hear that. I thought about entering for about 3 seconds then I remembered the circus from the last two events.. Great people watching however. beer

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/08/17 09:03 PM

Yeah, I'm not super enthusiastic about them letting more cars in. I'm really glad I busted my ass to get the car ready, even bought a new set of tires literally just for the event. I'd bet I'll get maybe 2 runs in tops and they won't let me race in the fastest dodge portion because it's a "Plymouth"

I thought about using my P-Body in it last year
but as your car mine is a PLY.. but I was gonna
re-badge it to Dodge(both look identical) but
just a couple of badges.. but my issue is getting
a VIN.. I have the title but I scrapped the vin
when I built it.. I thought about buying a car
(junker) and use the VIN and title off it or just
buy a new title and vin and put a dash in it with
that new vin

Chrysler employees and families can't compete for the money anyway.

I went over to the Road Kill for a few hours..
took the Rampage over.. I didnt even try to
get in(only 150 cars) but seen a dozen guys
from Drag Week that were in.. had a good time
but I left when it started to rain... everyone
was just spinning... no sooner than I got there
a Vega flipped over.. didnt look good(I heard 2
kids were hit but didnt get hurt.. that was about
50 yards from where I started out).. that was super
close to being real bad.. took about 1 1/2 hours to
get it cleaned up

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/13/17 12:37 AM

Well, I had an interesting time. Definitely didn't work out well in my favor at all.

Worked 9 hours Friday, got off at 5pm and loaded up the car. Ended up hitting the road at 8pm Friday. Made the mistake of taking 75 through Detroit and the terrible traffic with a 32ft trailer. Ended up arriving at the hotel at 12:45 am. Got maybe 2 hours of sleep tops. Woke up at 5:30am to go to tech that opened at 6am across town. Walk out of the hotel, and some idiot decided to park his tree trimming truck right behind the trailer, so I have to walk all the way back in get the keys, move the truck and trailer so I had room to unload. So by 6 we're on the way to tech, which is about 7-10 minutes from the hotel. Get there, fill out the "tech card" they checked some stuff and this and that. Finally a guy comes over and says, you're good on everything except your front tires aren't DOT approved(rears are 100% good). Not sure why It mattered, but he said I could not run the car. He suggested I go buy VW bug tires from belle tire on the corner, keep in mind it's Saturday morning at 6am and tech closes at 8am. I told him they are not speed rated or weight rated for a car like this and that is extremely unsafe at these speeds. He basically told me to pound sand. So I tried to explain to him that I literally just drove over 4 hours here to race. But somehow they let cars with beadlocks and Whatnkt in to race.

At this point I say screw it, and try to get my $100 prepaid registration fee back. They say no, and direct me to another person at a different location. So I go and try that person, and they tell me no refunds. At this point I'm slightly aggravated. I just spent $450 on tires, 150 on a hotel, $100 not to race and fuel to get there. I head back to the hotel, load up, and roll 4 hours home.

Pretty [censored]. End rant.

That blows, you have a unique fast street car and people wonder why some of us just say screw it and street race like its always been.

Yah I wasn't too happy. The fastest anyone has went is 5.70 from what I heard. I really think I would have had a chance.

We didn't get in, but it definitely wasn't from lack of trying. Really happy I had my buddy's with me to keep me calm.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/13/17 01:36 AM

I went through a similar ordeal at the first Roadkill and finally had them look over my tires with a magnifying glass to see the DOT, but not recommended for street duty all year round. I think they wanted cars running on street BFG/ Goodyear and Coker tires or something like that and I told them that any car with decent power AT THE TIRES should have a sticky tire at the very least, because not having so makes for a more dangerous situation in such a short distance.
My car was drunk for the first two rounds until I got a hold of it and the burn out sequence and brought back it's mojo game from back in the day.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/13/17 05:30 AM

The rules say dot tires...learn how to understand what you read...and by the way lenny won the 10 g's...and good for him

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/13/17 12:05 PM

You're right it does and doesn't say anything about front tires whatsoever. Also "DOT tire, no slicks, " in every shootout or class in the world it pertains to the rear tires, which would give someone a clear advantage in the class. Front tires give no one any sort of advantage.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/14/17 02:06 PM

I read through the RoadKill Rules and saw the DOT Tires and assumed that meant front and back since the event wasn't at a drag strip. I'm sure that Roadkill had to get some sort of special event liability insurance and that came with a list of requirements that became the rules. I can see at a track that already has insurance, where "DOT Tires Required" would mean rear tires only and they would let you race with drag race only front tires. And yes, for sure, a dedicated drag race front runner type tire would be much safer than any non-speed rated VW front tire.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/14/17 03:55 PM

damn...that's rough. I would have gladly lent you my fronts.

I went through the same thing the first year. I went out and bought rims and regular radial street tires because the rules said no slicks, no drag radials, etc. I showed up and they let everything run from DOT tires to full slicks.

Re: Roadkill nights - 08/14/17 04:11 PM

When I see a DOT tire rule, I take that to mean both front and rear. Now, at a lot of the street car shootouts I've raced in, they always allow a non-DOT front tire to run. Never seen anyone DQ'd for having ET Fronts.
