Monster Mopar Carnage - 07/30/17 02:30 PM

I know everyone thinks this is going to be a cast crank post but it's not!

I was trying to stage as shallow as possible in the CRT 10.0 shootout. Grabbed the transbrake a little early and didn't get all the way into the stage beam. Bumped the trans brake to nudge her forward and the boost controller and MSD two step thought we were starting the run.

I usually leave at 4200rpm and 14psi. Turns out it doesn't like to leave at 5700rpm and 18psi!

I just had Marty make me a new aluminum shaft, knew I would see something let go,you have been pushing your luck for a while!
Did you get to make a few time shots,,,,or the 1st shot was your shot?

At that weight and boost, it was bound to snap the cast neck of the goose.
Time for a billet ended propeller shaft with some 1350 cufflinks.

Glad nothing else went wrong, though you may have to take down the transmission to check it out, especially the tail housing.

This is a 1350 joint dynotech driveshaft, i was REALLY surprised to see this break!

I got some hits in. Trying to slow it down for 10.0, so only went a best of 9.91@137mph.

You still had some "slowin" to do.I find it hilarious your more door street car is a about a second slower than some of the big dawgs!

that is a pretty expensive second though.... I'm still surprised the driveline is what let go. Wonder if all the teeth are still on the ring gear....

Re: Monster Mopar Carnage - 07/30/17 04:23 PM

Hopefully it didn't break the trans or ring gear we'll see. Doesn't make any bad noises towing it, so I have hope for the ring gear.

I'm going to laugh my butt off if the 1350 driveshaft broke, but the used 1978 F250 ring gear is still intact...lol

Sorry to see you had some bad luck. That really stinks with you only getting out a limited amount of times this year. Sorry I didn't get to make the trip to see you guys. Enjoy the day and have a safe trip back home.

They had the 3 day 10,000.00 race at Keystone on the computer and Matt was driving a Friends 5.60 running Nova so I caught some of the action. He lost first round Friday and Saturday and something in the drive-line let go first round this morning so he's DONE. I've never seen him go through a weekend like this.

Re: Monster Mopar Carnage - 08/03/17 04:06 AM

I'm not too worried about it. Trans has a Super sprag, low band apply, and a billet drum.

I rolled a sprag in this car before and made several passes in it on just the low band apply. I'll definately recognize those symptoms again if they come up from this. Hopefully the ring gear is ok too.
