high idle

had a new gremlin this weekend. Once motor is hot [3-4passes] the engine goes to a "high idle" around 2000rpm after the burnout and will not come down even and after clearing it out numerous times etc.

any ideas what could cause this?

throttle cable appears to be fine and fully closing when off the pedal

check the springs in the dist if it's not locked out.

also check to see if the carb is going all the way back to idll posistion.
