Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/12/17 05:00 PM

Well we are using a 47rh in a diesel project and the bracket blocks the rear fluid port

We've called PPP several times with no solution. Seeing if any of you guys have had similar issues or solutions.

How about plugging it off and drill and tap a hole from the top of that boss

Looks like it could be the wrong bracket?
I would think it would need to run parallel down the pan rail

Is that for the throttle pressure or the shifter? If it's for the shifter something isn't right, it doesn't even line up with the lever.

They should change their name to PPPP (P*ss Poor Prior Planning)

how about a 90* fitting but that may take a line fitting adjustment to do it.

J-body had to fab his own bracket for a 727 too. There is a thread on here somewhere with pictures.

I run the 518 with the B&M shifter.. what is the distance
from the trans ear to the bottom of that bracket hole.. looks
like you can add a few washers to lower that bracket..
I had to add 2 or 3 washers to clear the lip of the pan..
as said already the shifter should be level so if its
level you should have some distance to lower that bracket
and you might need to trim the to of that bracket down
so you just clear that trans ear

Its right against the hole for the fitting.

Im not plugging and tapping the case im not a hill billy

Just trying to see if anyone else is have this issue with the rear pull shifters

HILL BILLY?????? Guess you don't know how to reengineer your way around. Or spell.

I agree with Jake... the easiest way to get
around this issue is to drill and tap the top
of the boss and plug the current hole... that
way your cable would line up

Im very well educated for one so dont get butt hurt that i dont want to be a hack.. And two im not re-engineering a transmission port, thats plain dumb when i can just build another bracket.

I made a post to see if this is a common theme with the precision shifters or not.

Sounds like it's more dumb to have to-reengineer a hole bracket and make everything line up when doing the hole could have been done in a short time. I was only trying to make your life easier But since you have all the brains then why did you have to even put up this post. Seams like you try and help someone and they blast you and call you dumb. I'm out of here........

I used my old b&m bracket and lever with my PPP shifter on my 904. Is yours rear exit I'm assuming?

Re: Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/13/17 06:50 AM

I had made my original prototype from aluminum. I gave it to a customer of mine who is a master welder (restores BSA motorcycles... a true artist). He whipped this one up for me out of steel. I then used my Dremel so that it would fit snug to the contour of the trans ear. tighten it up and it does not move. I sent these picts to PPP hoping they would follow through and start offering something similar. Apparently it wasn't a good idea smile

Works great and was icing on the cake for a dang nice shifter.

Re: Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/13/17 06:55 AM

....and I should have read the WHOLE thread. This bracket I did will have you in the same position you are presently in. I'd have to look at my 47re case and see if something like Jake mentioned would work. You're swimming in uncharted waters I'm thinking. Time to get creative! I do know that part of the case is pretty sensitive. Many a trans has been cracked there from simply over tightening line fittings.

Re: Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/13/17 07:15 AM

well my 47 case is a bit different... but still very delicate in that area. I don't think you'll get away with plugging and re-drilling out of the flat area above the hole.... unless you can weld it and drill and tap at more of a straight out angle. You might try a bracket like mine, but shorter. The cable would come in at an angle to the shift arm, but it might not affect the operation... something to think about.

Re: Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/13/17 11:31 AM

On top of that the 47 uses a half inch cooler line instead of the 727s five sixteenths. I would make another bracket and possibly use some steel braided hose with a 45 degree fitting or something like that.

Good luck with your truck, what valve body are using?

Re: Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/13/17 01:39 PM

Might try looking on some marine web sites and see if anyone makes a morse cable with a shorter distance on end that you'd use at the trans. That way you could have the cable mount closer to the shift lever ahead of that fluid port... or even a longer one to put it below/behind the fluid port.

Mr Jbody awesome!

Thanks for the replies

If that is your shift lever peeking in the picture - just to the left of your thumb - that bracket is way off. The hole should be more in line with the vertical support - not close to the cooler line fitting. Just like the bottom most picture.

Re: Issues with Precision shifter rear pull bracket 47rh - 05/14/17 06:16 PM

It looks like that you have room to move the cable hole toward the driver side. This would give you a straighter shot to the lever as well. All of these shifter brackets are not one size fits all and sometimes need tweaking. Whatever you do be careful to keep the same fore and aft distance from the bracket to the lever or you will wind up with a ratio nitemare.
