How long before pro stock has to make some changes?

How long before pro stock has to make some changes? - 04/25/17 05:39 PM

13 car fields, only 6 or 7 cars competitive. Chevy won every race but one and no new teams on the way seems a poor way to run one of three pro classes.

DSR, Force and Kalitta are the main multiple car teams in TF and FC. They have a lock. One car teams don't go very far. Just like Nascar and the like.I believe that it started with Kenny Bernstein when he brought multiple motors, turned them up and it became a war of attrition. AJ set the rules and motors for NHRA PS. GM has the advantage. That's why the IHRA mountain motor PS was popular. All the rumors of the new factory production car evolving into PS sounds like the nest route. 9" slick super/turbo charged and 10" for NA. New people, new teams and probably a 32 car field with 50+ ready to qualify. That's racing.

It's dead.

I know many on here thought EFI and no hood scoops were the beginning of the way back but it was just another turn in the long road of death to the best eliminator in drag racing.

Look how many of our own Moparts guys have switched over to EFI (the magic bullet) and are struggling to get it right. LOL. No thanks I'll stick to old-school.

Do you think the dodges will even finish the season? None of them are highly sponsored and to show up and lose first round won't pay the bills.

It's a catch 22. They may have signed a contract to make so many races or they don't get paid at all.

There is more to it than just showing up for NHRA events.

But, that is why V. Gaines parked his car. NHRA took the fun out of it. Unless something major changes, PS is done.

I think they should make it an 8 car show. I hate bye runs.

It's only going to get worse. NHRA wants the class gone but after the PST fiasco they don't want to end up in court again.

According to a Facebook post by Allen Johnson they found a gremlin in the car right before the last time trial. Only time will tell as they did step up but so did the weather.

I hope they find something. You won't find 2 better people than Roy and Allen. They have always been more than nice to me.

Edit: And Roy still returns my phone calls. He is a great guy, soft spoken and very very smart.

It would be interesting to hear what they found. IIRC they were off close to two miles per hour in their losing effort in the first round.

Gaines is coming back. Not in a Dodge.

13 car fields in pro stock, and 25 cars trying to get into the pro-mod field.

The rules changes pushed teams away as far as I can see.

Pro mods get their own 1/2hr show...... Pro stock gets about 1 minute of air time during the qualifying show.
I don't think you're going to have much luck hunting down sponsorship with that kind of air time.

Top fuel Harley's get more love from fs1.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^All true^^^^^^^^^^

And the Pro Mods don't have a 24 race schedule to keep up with. I think they only race 10-12 times a year which cuts down costs a bunch. I realize scheduling is difficult, but running 4 races in 10 weeks with only 2 even close to each other and the 8 races in 10 weeks is a nightmare, especially going for Houston one week, Charlotte the next and then where ever they go next. Seems to me they could cut down on the mileage some but what do I know?

You might be thinking of Larry Morgan. He's supposed to go Pro Mod.

It was Larry Morgan. Did he actually make any passes in the PM car yet?

LM ran his Pro Mod in Houston. I think he qualified and shook in rd. 1.

either way... what's NHRA going to do? Bet they still feel the sting when they ax'ed PST. Think the existing teams are wondering what their next career path is going to be?

Was the PST mess settled out of court?

For NHRA to still be feeling the sting can only mean one thing: A lot of money was paid out.

Can't even remember the last time I watched an NHRA race on TV.

The last pro mod show I watched had Brian Lohnes and Lewis Bloom as the commentators...... Pretty good pairing.

I'm still wondering who gave Tony Pedregon the "nod".

Last weekend on All Access and Fox1 Sports. I live for both racing and watching drag racing.

Is the All Access deal really that good?

I think about it but I can't imagine myself sitting with my iPad for 3 days watching the digs.

Now if I had a TV that would allow me to download AA to that I'd probably give it a shot.

I miss seeing Comp, SS and Stock.

I bought a 30.00 gizmo from Best Buy that lets me project from my computer to my big screen TV. Getting All Access for 100.00 was one of my smartest moves in a long time. Same with all the heads up races that are on the computer.

I'll still watch it, after all it's racing. Pro Stock will never be what it was in it's hay day again. It too will evolve and change or just fade away. IMO, as some have mentioned unless Chrysler and Ford throw some skin in the game it's not going to improve.

NHRA has put many racers out to the pastures with there decision making in the past, Modified eliminator, AA/GS, Jr fuelers and so on shruggy whiney
