Best 408 stroker kits - 03/22/17 04:06 AM

Need to call on my fellow mopar people for a question. I'm in the process of building a 78 360 block ( will be stroked) with xe284h cam 360 2.02 j heads with major port work and will be going in a first gen Dakota big stall big gear. Question is this is my first stroker I'm putting together, willing to spend around 1,300-1,800 for the kit and would like to run 93 octane any suggestions on where to purchase or which kit I should go with. I'm terrible with determining pistons for compression ratios, really could use some help thanks guys and gals

What do you mean by big gear and big stall and what comp..
what will be your max rpm and is this 1/4 or 1/8 mile

Its hard to beat ones like Clegg or Shannon, both sell scat kits on ebay for a cast or forged balanced kit, you know your J heads are 68-72cc depending if they have ever been milled or have aftermarket valves. So compression ratio is simple to determine.

10 inch 3,800 stall. 4.10 gears. 1/4 mile. J heads have been milled slightly. 6,000 max rpm most likely

I bought most of the parts for last build from CnCMotorsports. I was going to go with a scat kit, but after I researched what bearings and pistons they came with and the route I wanted to go, I ended up buying each part that I wanted and asked CnCMotorsports to verify I had the right parts to make a "kit". It ended up being about the same price as a complete kit, but I ended up with the parts/brands that I wanted for MY build.

The one problem I keep finding with the kits is compression ratios, either you get a flat top or a really big dish (typically 20CC). I usually end up piecing them together with the parts I want, the kits don't really save you much anyhow unless you go with a 4.125 or 4.250 then BPE can save you money.

I'm no expert, and I don't have mine assembled yet but I just bought the Scat 98112bi from Summit. My combo sounds very similar to yours, with my ported 974 iron heads I have it figured at at or just under 11-1 comp .with a .040 head gasket. The kit was just under $1500 and every thing looked very nice. shruggy
