Have you ever seen it used? Any stories? Not much info I could find on the net. Nasty stuff.

Do you want to die? work down tsk
There are way better ways to add heat safely into the combustion chamber up

I think this was a hydrazine run. There are a couple of different hydrazines, UDMH is probably the most common.

Proof positive that driving over the crankshaft is more than just a figure of speech.

Years ago, when we were young and stupid we added a mix of hydrazine and acotone to our fuel should have just used a dose of nitro. The only thing that I recall about those where how young and dumb I was. work whistling

This was the jump up in my altered when we were mixing ether and gas. Crazy power and real crazy hazardous. It was a one and done deal. I believe that it is a component of rocket fuel.

Order up a 5 gallon can of nitro. It is blast to run. makes your motor louder and smells like nitro. Makes folks eyes water all around you. drive

I thought I read somewhere that one of the hot shoes many years ago left a small container in a truck cab, and the heat in the cab set it off, destroying the truck!

UDMH is used as a storable rocket fuel with nitrogen tetroxide. Nasty sh#t! Poisonous, corrosive, often self igniting. S/F....Ken M

Re: Hydrazine in a race car - 03/04/17 04:13 PM

Ran nitro in our methanol through our stack injection. It was the most fun I ever had racing. Kinsler Fuel Injection setup and flowed my fuel system and suggested how to jet it with different amounts of nitro. I never did burn one up from nitro.
But I did over rev a 572 BBC down in Fla and put rod out the side of the block on a burnout. It was my fault not the nitro, but the nitro did make it easier to do a big burnout.

Used this to measure the nitro %

Dang, I threw a block through the rods!

My father worked at Brookes Medical Center (Brookes AFB, SAN Antonio). They were running Hydrazine tests for NASA as it was to be used for control Jets on the different space missions. It was used on the space shuttle for a while and was the reason people couldn't approach it after landing for a period of time. Very toxic. Interesting findings: If you place a finger in Hydrazine liquid or residue you can taste it almost immediately because its penetrates the skin. Whether burnt or unburnt it still retains its toxicity. Will kill (very unpleasent) as fast as 10 minutes depending on exposure. Was outlawed many years ago in drag racing but some people still try to sneak it in the fuel mix. The flame is a greenish yellow. Side note, theres been some cases where poison was mixed in hydrazine and the poison acted very quickly.
