Mechanical throttle stops

Anyone use the moroso 65042 positive throttle stop? Any others or can anybody show me how they made their own? Thanks!

Good question! We have been talking about an ET Genie to slow the car down for my grandson.

ET Genie is a little more than I wanted to spend. Like $400 more. A guy I race with has different restrictor plates he changes for the weather conditions

Had the Moroso, modified it a bit, took 1/2 of the throttle away as well as lowered shift points to make a 12.0 index out of a 11.6 car...

Im not comfortable with a rookie in a 10 second car. He needs seat time.

Starting using one last year.
I was able to slow from 11.20s to 11.50s

Thanks for the input. Trying to slow 11.2 car to 11.50 index. Lowered shift points to the level that I shifted from 1st to 2nd and then to third immediately. Did not think it was a good thing for the converter.

Ted FWIW that's probably the best way. Threw my kid in the dragster with it wowed up a bit but that was still 9.0's. Even with a stock stroke 440 it wasn't easy

This is what I made for my 1050 dom...it slips
into the hole at the center and rotates down
over the rear stud to mount the carb.. worked
very good for me

Lots of ways to slow a car .3

1. Disconnect secondaries
2. Launch in 2nd gear
3. Mechanical stop
4. Pedal it (my preference)

Problem with 1 and 3 was trying to run S/P and S/ST on same day.

Ted, you are talking 1-1/2 seconds, you are going to need something more robust, like a 300-cfm 2bbl on an adapter.

I have been using a modified version of the Moroso stop for almost 10 years now and have been pretty successful with it. However I changed my throttle cable bracket to a Jegs one so I could use two bolts to mount the stop otherwise it tends to move when only attached to the carb stud.

The ET Genie is awesome! I use it with CrewChief software and as long as my 60ft prediction is correct, the Genie will put me right on the number every time. On my car I have learned for example that .01 open or closed will add/subtract that time directly to the ET. I also like the fact the with the Genie I am always going "full throttle" so the car is so much more consistent than the throttle arm restricters I used before.

I'm using a 4150 950 HP carb

We used the Moroso 65042 stop to slow the Duster from 10.7's to 11.5's (no cage at the time). We had to put an extension on the stop to slow it down enough. It worked great aside from breaking the throttle cable in round one of the first elimination round because the stop stopped the gas pedal from making it all the way to the floor and broke the pedal end of the cable off. We fixed the issue by also putting a stop under the gas pedal. the car was very consistent and we went many bracket rounds with it that way. Now have a cage but still use the stop on occasion for index classes.

To me if you have a cable throttle cable you will need a stop for your gas pedal as it is only a matter of time before the cable breaks. If your throttle is a rod than you will be okay. I have a factory throttle cable on my car and had to add small piece of flat metal between the end of the cable and the carb for it to reach. I made the flat piece about 2 inches longer than needed and drilled extra holes in it so I can shorten the cable thus preventing full throttle to help slow the car down. I haven't gotten to use it yet, and it won't be as precise to dial in for an ET like the bolt and nut, but will help slow the car down a X given amount.

I've stopped my N/SS cars with a bolt in the linkage. Close to 1000 passes stopped with the bolt. Been pretty succesful. Never broken a stock cable. Learn it and you can stay on the index by doing the weather. I've slowed anywhere from .10 to .70

Same here nine years of using the stop and never broke a cable or had any problems. I did notice however that stop settings ( i e turns) are a lot more sensitive on my 950 than they were on my 750. Slowing down seven to eight tenths on average ( 10.70s to 11.50 )

A lot of guys on the west coast use the ET Genie as it has been around for awhile or the Dedenbear mechanical disc stops. I see more of the disc stuff on faster cars running in classes like B/Gas and ET Genie on slower cars.

I agree the stop should be before the cable.

As for launching in 2nd gear. I can see a torquey big block only slowing down a couple tenths at best.
