A833 race - 01/07/17 04:55 AM

Does any company make any "race " parts for the 833 ? Like gears / shafts ...etc

Liberty Gears will pro-shift or face plate your gears and input shaft, and provide matching hub/sliders. I'm not sure what they provide without cores anymore. Allow time, more time than they say. I would recommend using the 18 spine hemi stuff for racing. Good luck, have fun! drive

Jamie Passon makes 9310 replacement gears. After that, just the Liberty mods mentioned by Hemi_Joel.

You can get 9310 alloy speed gears and have them faceplated by Liberty. I have yet to see a 9310 cluster gear although there are some floating around according to the elders.

I'd call Liberty and talk to them directly if you are just in need of gears. Passon and Brewers are also good to check with and can help steer you in the right direction.

I built an all aluminum (bushed case) a-833 with face plated gears, billit retainer, all ARP Bolts, and a new shifter it was around 4k assembled at our shop.

A few months later I scored a G-Force 5-speed for not a whole lot more than that.

If I were to stay with a 4-speed it would be a G-101A model. They can be purchased reburbished from G-Force for around the same price as you would have in an a-833 if you started from scratch.

In our case we wanted to upgrade to an aluminum case/tail, new 9310 gears, and my old super shifter was worn out so it made sense. Then we started adding weight back into the car, soon afterwards came the Monte Smith N20 kit, and suddenly we found ourselves needing something good for more than 650hp.

My aluminum box is still on the bench awaiting a more tame build and the G-Force is ready to go in the car. Be aware that the G101A uses a T-10 bolt pattern and is a bit shorter too. The 5-speed (ala Doug Nash) required major surgery to the floor and t-bar x-member. A G101A should only require some minor floor pan and trans x-member modifications.

Either way you are looking at big fun!

I ran the 833 with gears pro shifted by Liberty for years. I sent my gears in and bought their sliders. If you don't have gears , they sell new replacements and also they might have good used gears , you have to ask. As stated they also do face plating which is a better setup as that modification will last 10 times longer for about the same amount of money. On the pro shifted transmission, it shifts so easy it's like there is no linkage on the shifter. One thing that I found out was horse power is not the 833's friend. Under power the main shaft and the input shaft decide to push away from the cluster gear and 3rd gear becomes history along with some other gears from pieces being run through them. You can ask Liberty about that, they warned me, I didn't listen , twice. If you plan on doing any street driving , pro shifted is not the way to go. Face plated 833 is streetable.

Re: A833 race - 01/07/17 11:55 AM

Id say that up to 600hp an 833 18sp will hold up just fine. More with a good race clutch.
Biggest downside on the 833 is the lack of different ratios.
Im not sure if liberty still have the 2.94 gear sets.
I have a gforce in one of my cars and like it alot but they are not indestructible and when they break its about twice the cost to repair vs the 833.
So if you are around 600hp and want a bolt in deal the 833 will do the job.
But without a good race clutch i cant see it beeing that fast.
My alltime biggest et improver was a softlok clutch. From 1.47 60 to 1.32 no other changes.

Liberty Gears also can make input and output shafts for the 833 out of M300 material , you will never have to worry about twisting them off.

Which G-Force trans are you running? What clutch is behind it?

What specifically broke?

Good thread, thanks for sharing info guys.

Gf4a. Its the same internals as the 101a. Split a slider in 3 parts and took some other stuff with it. Gforce luckily have alot of used parts for them.
Running a mcleos softlok.

weight of car? Are the internals REM polished? Appreciate the info. What car is it in anyway? You can PM me if you'd like so we don't derail this any further.

Btw i think passon performance can sell you faceplated gears.
I have one of those 300m mainshafts from liberty. I does not have a speedo gear witch i really want. Ive thought about making one from plastic to press on like some muncies have.

Beings I just sold my liberty four speed here about a year ago, i dont have my receipt, I had it face plated, 1st gear synchronized, cover modification. I think I had around 900 in parts from liberty.

Re: A833 race - 01/08/17 03:02 AM

Modified side cover is worth it. Goes from 5/16" stock shafts to 3/8" shafts. Nuts don't loosen up any more and tabs lock in better.

Re: A833 race - 02/07/17 02:26 AM

For the money id skip all the bs and go straight to a entry level g force 101, or like trans, for years I played with the slick [censored], liberty 833 trans games and its more or less a never ending path of destruction/fix.

The 101 is bulletproof and not that costly, yes the 833 will work for you but its straight stone age, anyone who has had both or even better the the 101 I think would agree.

But thats just me.

But if you go the 833 PM me ive alot of good new parts for them.

Re: A833 race - 02/07/17 03:26 AM

I had a Pro-shift 833 in my car for a while and I split a few 3-4 sliders(kinda like pounding a cheap socket on a stuck bolt and hitting it with a powerful impact) I then got the Richmond street 5-speed and had first through fourth face plated and the gears treated so they weren't so brittle. Now I'm back with a street Hemi box and I'm considering getting 3-4 faceplated because that will eliminate the slider splitting issues I had before. I'm just afraid to break a good street box that shifts smooth as silk.

How much are the 300M shafts from Liberty?

Hey Guys, what is the process of 'face plating'? Is it a heat treatment or chemical layer deposition for the gears?

Neither of the above. Look at the pictures and on the Liberty link.

Thank You. beer It would be what I call a machining enhancement. That is neat, definately not for the insides of a powerglide. cool
