Post your SV1 Jetting...... - 12/19/16 06:13 AM

Bored, need to look at mine and find out what's up with it. Deep freeze is setting in, so other than collect info on someone else's there is not much I can do....

Mine is 95mm. I cannot image them needing too much difference in jetting if the carb is the same size, but then again, I am not even remotely and expert on anything like carbs.

My summer ended early when my Hemi let go as I was going to more road testing with O2 readings, so I never got the chance to keep going with the tune up. My jetting is way down from where they said to run mine.

Surprisingly close to mine...It doesn't show ports #1 & #5....I think until summer gets back, I will just put mine back to OEM and start over.

Well it didn't sell yet...And considering the price, I am losing my butt on it if it does, might as well tinker with it on my 512 as my new intake showed up....

The 1250 is sitting quietly while the 605 is going back togather. Block is all done and we clearanced a few more things after the welding and it needs a really good cleaning and things will take shape quickly now.

I am gasket matching the ports on the Hemi intake as we speak and I was surprised at how much meat was left in the ports. So the 1250 will go back on rest assured, and I will probably have to jet up slightly. Any idea on how much port matching helps the Hp? Had to be over 1/8" all around on the ports.

Re: Post your SV1 Jetting...... - 12/22/16 06:59 PM

Whatever works for you man and I port match everything the best I can but have heard there's very little gain or loss by a slight mismatch. I don't buy that myself and know for sure first hand that the wrong header can be worth LOTS of power when the top flange is in the roof of the port a 1/4" as it was on a guys sb Chevy I messed with. When he put on the correct headers, the car picked up on motor and spray and the et's went down........... drive

I know you didn't ask me and likely don't care what I think.....but I wouldn't waste my time. I know Patrick has told several that if they weren't happy, he would swap the SV-1 for a Dominator. I would for sure see if that was an option, if not sell it for what you can get and count it as lesson learned.

Poor design, can't see how anyone would ever think that could work well. I know some claim they work great. Maybe they do on their combo, but they should just consider themselves lucky. Yet to see one that didn't have to be nasty rich at low speed to get it on a trans brake

Re: Post your SV1 Jetting...... - 12/22/16 09:42 PM

Not a bad idea. Not sure if he would do that, but I could always ask. I thought I would be different and try it.

My thought is, with such a big blade uncovering so much area, its always going to be lean unless you run it at 75psi of fuel pressure like a Ron's toilet...but it is kinda neat.

Funny thing is, its pig rich at 2800 on up....Idle was nice and clean until I messed with it. Now that's goofed up and I need to pull it all apart and make sure I got the restrictors for 1-5 in correct.

Re: Post your SV1 Jetting...... - 12/22/16 09:51 PM

You have it sort of right. The blade is so big, it's like a switch. It's nearly impossible to cover that hole in the fuel curve because a carb just can't react that fast. And sense it also doesn't have a true booster, to make it transition from idle to WOT, is has the be crazy rich on that circuit. It may idle clean, but getting them on a trans brake with a tight converter can be a nightmare. So you end up having to make the idle pig rich to get it to transition. This causes the car to be lazy in 60ft.

Re: Post your SV1 Jetting...... - 12/23/16 09:01 AM

Sent him a couple of e-mails and he asked me to fill out the quote form again. It might be going back. His e-mails are short and cryptic, so figuring out what he means somtimes is a best guess.

Its funny because I just sold a PS4150 1000cfm carb he built me back in 2012, and it was the opposite. It was so lean, I could see air thru it..Same engine specs other than cam. It took a season, but I worked on it and got it pretty good.

Had #84 Primary / #92 secondary with #35 HSB and #76 IAB and changed it to #94 square and #27 HSB with #70 IAB's and it was the best damn carb next to my Thumperized 1250 we ever had....It was .09 quicker on almost anything we ran it on once I figured out the right jetting for me. We have run that on Hemi's, and Wedge motors alike, and with some slight jetting, it always works so well, we have to find more traction...

So hopefully I either get this experiment gone with and go to a nice 1050 4500...I finally spent the $$ for a 4500 intake and now just need another 4500 carb.

Re: Post your SV1 Jetting...... - 01/26/17 05:01 AM

Cheap bastards, you guys are gonna make me keep this SV1 and figure it out....After some discussions with Patrick via e-mail, I did figure out I inadvertently swapped some jets. I kinda figured I did, cause I got all goofed up one day when I had it all apart, and couldn't remember which jets went where. Not exactly a regular carb, so there isn't much to go on with one of these. I have not tried it back out since swapping them back, but made this little diagram to help anyone who might have one of these.

I guess they have different standards out west...Most winters its tuff to find the door to my garage, let alone work in it.

Either way, hope this helps some folks. I am in the middle of buying a lathe so I can make all my own jet sizes. My old job is gone so I no longer have access to one....We will see.

I beleive my issue in the fuel sloshes and stays at the back of the bowl incovering a jet creating PIRATE air causing a lean condition.Keeps the float high but uncovers a deiticak surface of the metering block.
