Help with aluminum rod torque spec - 02/14/09 08:09 PM

I have a set of C&A aluminum rods with c&s 3000 rod bolts. Does anyone know what to torque them to? Apparently they are no longer in business to ask. The rods have a blind hole so can't do a stretch value.
Thanks

i think they are 7/16 bolts? If they are, its 70 ft. lbs. if they are 3/8, its 55 ft. lbs.

it depends on the series of rod as well as the bolt diameter and length. the above mentioned number may be correct, i don't know, but i'd want to be sure if i were you. i have some CA rods that take 90 ft. lbs. post more info about what you have and i'll see what i can find for you.

Whats important is to find what they were torqued at for final sizing. It won't do any good to torque them to any given spec if the bores are out of round there. If they are 7/16 torque them to 70-75 and measure the bore to check for roundness. Also make sure everything is at room temperature before starting. Adjust the torque accordingly as long as it's in the window for that fastener other wise they need to be resized at the desired torque.

Dram the only numbers I can see are 150 forged into the side of the cap and j188 stamped on the cap. 7/16 bolt
