New best today... Yippee! - 11/06/16 01:46 AM

Good air today(800 foot) had to get out 1 more time.
Managed an 11.66 at 114.04. New best by a good bit.
That said, this was with the belts off. I plan to make some changes over the winter and swap out the stock fan and water pump , along with the power steering.
Just have to find another tenth and a half in worse air to reach my goal with this little 318.

Good work. Get yourself an aluminum manual gear box, for starters.

I hear ya. I had to work today. Picked away at getting everything saddled up to run up to 131 after work while it was still open.
Once I grabbed the keys to a truck to tow it, everything else was zombie like.... Lol....put one foot in front of the other.
Getting old sucks.

Do you think the MPH jives with that ET? Or is it running out of fuel the last couple of hundred feet from the finish line work What are your 1/8 mile and 1000 ft. times and MPH?

Re: New best today... Yippee! - 11/07/16 03:31 AM

The slip is in the car at my shop Cab. But I remember the car was 91.99 at half track.
60 foot on that pass was 1.626. That's the best it's ever done there.
It does seem kinda mushy when I drop it in high gear. Takes it a while to get to right about 6k as it hits the stripe. Maybe it's just me being used to a much faster car.
Has 28 tire and 4.10 gear. Probably would like a 4.30 but not sure if it's worth the trouble

Very nice! One good running little motor!

I bet it would respond to more gear. Shorter tire is the easiest way to experiment with that.

I have a 275 Hoosier radial on it. Don't know if they make anything shorter, and if they did it would probably look weird on the car.... Lol and for the 400 bucks I could be close money wise to doing the gear swap to a 4.30. The tires on it are shot, got two complete years on them.
At the end of the day it's primarily a streetcar, so trying not to lose that part of it to go faster, which is a fine line.

I was wondering if the extra gear would help it 60 foot better and get in its power band quicker?

As far as making the car 60 ft. better and changing the starting line gear ratio does your tranny have a low ,2.77, low gear set in it now ? If not that may be the better choice to help the car work Especially if it is a 904 tranny scope
BTW, I've seen a bunch of different race cars run out of fuel volume the last 300 ft. of the track and not know it shruggy
If your MPH is down compared to other cars at your track running the same ET maybe you have a unknown problem in the fuel system work

Here are the incrementals on that pass

1.626 60 foot

330.....4.710
660......7.359...... 91.89mph
1000....9.68..........104.92
1320....11.66.........114.04
Does have a low gear 904.... Or so I was told.

Is that good or bad?
Using 1.56 factor it says the car should run 11.46 based on the 7.35 1/8 mile time????

Re: New best today... Yippee! - 11/08/16 12:45 AM

My old 426 C.I. 415 HP M.W. stocker would pick up around 20 MPH in the last eight mile, I sold that car in 1988 before NHRA started offering 1000 ft. E.T. and MPH so I can't compare your 10 MPH increase in the last three hundred feet to it. I think your good though up

22 in the back half is smokin' for a little motor. ( At least to me anyway)
