Who's going?
Mrs G-bob and I will be there. Probably staying in the Motel Pace this year.
Will have the new bullet in the coronet, and the engine bay is getting a facelift.

I'll be there with my EFI shorty dragster in Q16.
I'll also be assisting a few customers with their first time out at a drag race. One is the pink Hemi Challenger that was on the cover of Mopar Muscle. I can't wait to see what it turns.

The Duster is all back together and seems to run good. Just got to mount the slicks. Hope to make more than a half a run this year. Will be staying at the track.

Well, my brother and I are definitely going, however we have pulled the plug on bringing the Cuda out. Its ready to race, however my Bro is concerned about the #s matching block still being in the car. I dont think his new engine will be done in time. I dont want to rush it so we will just have to wait for the next year. SUX!!! We were hoping for a LOW 10 sec. pass in Vegas.

Me and Johnny Gray hope to be there but I will have my slow motor in this year good motor needs freshening. I am Building a stocker and it is takine most of my time. Hope to make it two in a row in pro.

back and told us the airfare went up to $1200.00
Does anyone know of any deals to go from Ohio-Vegas?

Just checked Southwest Airlines (http://www.southwest.com) out of Cleveland you can still get a round trip for $344 leaving on Thursday and going back on Monday.

You are correct on the price. I had booked a trip
through Southwest, and the whole round trip air,
hotel,rental car, everything was $385.00 a person
Now they want basically that much just for airfare.

Hey if any of you want to save on Test n Tune then get there on Friday the 13th, the weekend prior to MATS, it's much more affordable.
And we have two races scheduled for Saturday and Sunday as well so you'll get in a bunch of racing if you show up early.

I AM GOING TO TRY AND MAKE IT, BUT I PROBABLY WONT HAVE MY VALIANT READY, ENGINE IS STILL AT MACHINE SHOP AND THAT IS A LONG WAY TO TRAILER A CAR FOR SOME SHAKE DOWN PASSES W/ A GREEN DRIVER AND CAR. ESP ON A CAR THAT SHOULD RUN MID 10'S AT LEAST. I DONT WANT TO EMBARRASS MYSELF

I'm out now!!! A 5 figure tax surprise has taken my mats budget, and budget for getting ready to go. Adding to it, I don't fit in any class, and with another car underway, I'd better tighten up and stay on the porch for a while. I may still fly down and watch though.
I can only hope my tax dollars will help some disenfranchised unwed mother pump out a few more fatherless little Obamites. I'll sleep so much better knowing my dollars weren't poured down the black hole of real business. Besides I'd just have wasted that money buying goods and services from American companies anyhow.

Yeah usually everyone goes to the Cannery Casino at night and they usually have a musical guest to entertain us.
There might be some other concerts in the area as well, Vegas is a rockin town.

Usually they have had a car show on the back
street (closed off) behind the Cannery Hotel
on Friday night and on Saturday night they
have some kind of concert at the Hotel along
with selling food and drinks.
A few years ago they brought into the patio
all (or most) of the SS/AH cars on Friday
night.

It could happen that I'll be there with the re-born Melrose Missile VII A/FX car, if it's done in time. I'm no big deal, but the car's pretty cool by anyone's measure. I'd really like to run my Duster but that's a remote possibility.
Might go just to see the SS/A cars run, worth the admission by itself.

Well, not to rub it in but our tax return just opened the door for me to go... I give the state WAY too much money as a free loan for the year, and then they give me some of it back. Aren't they sweet? Seeing as how they handled their budgeting issues in such a timely manner, I trust them them to take better care of my money than I ever could.
Regardless of that "fact", I'll be there Thursday some time. I'm staying at the Alliante a few miles from the track. I have not had the car out since Pinks - Sonoma (Infineon), and since then I've rebuilt the rear end again, gone to discs on the rear, changed from 275/60 M/T Drag Radials to 28.0x10.5 M/T ET Drags and Caltracs. I'm trying to get my subframe connectors in before MATS, but I may have to forgo them since I still have to finish replumbing the fuel lines to clear them. That, and I'd prefer to have someone more competent at chassis mods supervise my installation (HINT HINT - Free beverages of choice and BBQ for any volunteers!!!)

Yeah I been paying 5 figure tax bills for the last 4 years but I make sure I put aside time and money for my hometown event. Otherwise I am in the same boat when it comes to traveling.

I justpaid my $$$ last week for registration. I've had the hotel booked for 3 months. I'll be going in with a completely new and untested chassis setup includuing cal-tracs and real slicks. Well see what happens! It will either hook up and drop my 60's or hook up and drop my 8 3/4...

UPDATE We will be staying at the track this time around. If anyone needs a hand at the track, give me a pm and I can give you my cell. I am bringing my NO maintenance 68 Valiant beater so I shouldn't have to work on it at all. Unless Murphy is reading this!
And then it will just go in the trailer. Bringing up quite a pile of swap meet parts as well. Time to trim down on the extras

I talk to Jill Painter yesterday about having our group pitted in the same area as last year, she said to have each racer save 4 or 5 spots for his buds, she couldn't give us 50 spaces and have them held for us

My dad is down here, but the Duster is hibernating up in SoDak awaiting the spring.
Truth is the extra race $$$ is just not around this year and it's pretty hard to make a "cheap" weekend at MaTS. The car is parked and I think it's going to stay that way this year.

We've decided to stay at the track as well. No luxurious Speedway Ramada this year.
We'll put an air mattress on the floor of the Motel Pace and call it a bedroom. We have a bbq, microwave and will bring the waffle maker, so figure we're good to go.
Now I just have to get the car finished. Re-wiring and plumbing takes FOREVER.
Looks like the first hits on the bullet are going to be at MATS.

Say it aint so Ted...Hope you can make it. Heck I am still thrashing trying to get my heap ready to go. We are putting the new trans in tomorrow and if it does not rain make it to the track. Kind of running out of time myself as I still have to get the wheelstand calmed down and then try and dial in with a new fuel. We are hoping to be ready to go ourselves.

In my opinion, if you wanna get a decent picture, mid day is probably a bad time. Alot of people will be in their own pits prepping the car, or in line to race... Seems to me that early or late would be easier to get people rounded up...

Well, my buddies all bailed on me. BUT----I just reserved a swap meet spot, 20x25 and will be in a red dodge dually, hauling a small enclosed red and white trailer. It has the Kasey Kahne number 9 on it. I will take enough stuff to try and get rid of it to pay for the spot. This way I have a sleeping spot because I will haul the LANCE camper on back and bring some MOPARTS beer for the members. I will also bring some water for members. Just stop by and say HI or call at my number.
I will also post the number on the trailer as my goal is not to sell much if anything, its to get a place to sleep, cook burgers and bring beer and water for some of you. And watch LOTS OF RACING AND learn some stuff for my race car and 38 Plymouth. --CANT WAIT. Its been a long winter
The LAWFISH trailer is not needed due to the small abount of stuff I am bringing and its also in Idaho.
Oh, and Gary, I will have some scotch and stogies as well.

You do have a point.. however to be realistic.. I dont think there is a perfect time. If we schedule it in the morning, then we will miss those that are wrenchin on the car of sleeping off a hangover.
If we do it late in the day, then many people might have already left.. Specially on the Car Show side..
I picked 12 noon because its in the middle of the day and easy to remember.. However if the majority of people prefer a different time, then thats ok by me..

It looks like it will just be me going without my brother or his car. I will be helping out Bob Mazzolini with his SS/AH HEMI car. If Kevin Berthoud goes, I will help him out as well. This should be very fun. Im looking forward to many peoples cars running including G-Bobs, Mazzolinis Cuda, Chris Costanzas Silver Cuda with the new HEMI and then a few others cars. WIll be fun to hang out and meet a few new people as well. Look for Mazzolinis Yellow Cuda with Blue flames and say hi.

Well things have changed I will be attending, but still with out the car. How do you identify each other out there if you dont what each other look like or what some ones car looks like? We are still thrashing away at this thing, trying to get it finished. This new Hemi has thrown us a few curves, but, they are getting straightened out. The headers are being made tomorrow, and than it comes home, where I get to pull a few all nighters to finish it up. I am going to deserve some sort of award if I get this heap there. (Trust me, it is NOT for a lack of trying)

I'll have just pieces, since they are running more and we're out of sets.

I just did the same exact thing, Put my LANCE on the back of my dually. They dont leave much clearance on those huge dually sides. I am now used to it.
I am packed and almost ready to go.Just need to fill the camper with water.

, I will not be making it to MATS. I do not have enough time to get the car ready, and, I certainly am not going to rush anything with this new motor. Don't feel bad. I wasn't too sure if I was going to make it either...! I was going to use this last weekend to get everything organized, you know...no rushing!
Well, my wife found a car for my daughter up in Santa Margarita so we drove up there Friday nite, left the dealership around 11:15 at nite, got lost (inlaws directions), finally made it to Huntington beach (inlaws trailer), couldn't get in the parking lot (a whole nother story).
Got home the next day and was tired, so I figured I would get some stuff done around the house and dedicate the whole day Sunday to the car.
Get up Sunday, take my wife to Yard House for brunch, get a call from inlaws saying there POS Yukon just lost the fuel pump on their way back home.
So we have to go up there and drag their trailer back down here, and by that time...there was no time for the car....there was but I was tired and I thought the car would be no problem....
Turned out, my batteries went to crap....but hey, after some diagnostics I can finally say I should be there and ready to race!!

Well, a small miracle happened today. We finished the car, and we will be going to Vegas. We will only be able to make some passes on Friday, but, Friday is better than nothing.
I checked the TNT for Friday, and it shows from 10-4:30 PM. Is this still the actual schedule for TNT???

Anyone else still out in the garage thrashing? I finally got the fuel system squared away, now I need some clean-up and a generic preset on the cal-tracs. Hook the battery charger up for a good post-winter top off, and we should be good to go after work tomorrow afternoon.
What is the latest we can arrive and still get in Thursday?

Should be at the gate in the 11:30 range.
I wasn't sure I was gonna get it done, everything just seems to snowball.

MaTS "regret syndrome" really kicked in for me today. My income has been down from usual (auto tech) and I just didn't want to extend myself to run this event. It's spendy, but a very good time, especially hooking up with the Moparts group. I'm REALLY starting to regret not prepping the car and taking a couple days off. Dang!! would have camped out at the gate last night and had a few cold ones with the rest of the early birds. By now the car would have most likely been teched and we'd be sitting near a trailer with many people.....and many peoples coolers. Dang I'm stupid!! I may skip out of work saturday and drive up there to catch some racing action. I'm really regretting my sensible "decision" right now.

Last year I spent Thursday cruising to Vegas with the Big 4 door 1 ton, both cars on the trailer, and three generations of Gebharts on board!! This year..just a normal ole workday..the two ribeyes I cooked to perfection tonight did little to get the bad taste out of my mouth!!

Yep, 1st year I've missed it as well. The wife's knee is on the mend and I didn't want to take any more of my vacation days as we lost some this year.
The good news is though that I am working and racing every Wednesday night at Infineon so that helps even made a little coin out there as well.

Well, Day 1 update ---
Ted tried to decimate the mosquito population with his smoke show, Al qualified for the Quick 16 on 7 cylinders, Jeepmon and I should have been running heads-up against each other, Cab had some launch issues, w2stroker ate his tourque converter, GBob is kicking tail and taking names in the low 10's, OU812 has the full motorhome camp setup and is making a full-on vacation out of it, and those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.
Breakfast at 6am tromorrow, so I've got to get some sleep!

Yep, I made it. The first pass with the new motor, was an 8.69 @ 159, but, the car felt like it was a slug.
We didn't have a chance to scale the car, blah,blah,blah. The car, however, would not weight transfer at all. I switched the front shock settings, and it hit the bar, but, the motor was still not working at all. I went through the lights at only 8000 RPM, and this motor should be going through the lights in the neighborhood of 9500-9800.
To put it in a nutshell, this motor felt like it had a governor on it, on every pass, as the rear gear is WAYYYYY off. (It will need 5.20 - 5.30 gear)
I do know this....Once the bugs are worked out of this car/motor combo, this thing is going to FLY.
Off to sleep, I am beat.

I got to meet Al and G Bob so it was nice
to put faces with names.
It got pretty windy today (Sat) and there
is supposed to be a storm coming in on Sun.
I pulled up stakes and headed for home this
afternoon, a nice "leisurly" 6 hour drive
back home towing my travel trailer.
The swap meet was bigger, the car show was
about the same size as last year, same with
the drag racing, but the stands were not
full at all any of the days.

i was there friday. pretty good racing.
anyone see that crappy looking Omni GLS run 11's? That was awesome. we were all laughing at it when it did it top fuel burn out but then it ran 11;s and the stands erupted.
I figured it would be a bigger show. maybe saturday is bigger. the monster mopar show was A LOT bigger both in the racing and the car show.
still it was alright (but shoot, $30 to get in for 1 day is nuts)

Demography is the key there. Alot more population available to most shows east of the Miss. Alot of people travel some pretty great distances to attend Vegas. It's all we have out west.
Can't argue about the $30 bucks to get in and walk around though. I was considering driving up to meet up with some people and watch some racing, but I was busy at work and wouldn't have been able to get to LVMS until after 1pm. Being things wrap up around 5 we skipped it.

it is pretty windy in vegas today....
had that long 7 1/2 mile tow home after losing in the second round.

it was pretty wind, then we saw a touch of rain, lots of folks departed early made for a depressing last day if you ask me. The swaps were barrin today and so was the show field. Some show cars showed back up just before I split
