Fitech - 10/11/16 05:48 PM

Anyone have any experiences running that brand of fuel injection? I have the fast 2.0 on our other car. Best pass so far on crappy e- 75 has been 11.19 @ 119. it's a nice system, but pricey. Seen this Fitech being used on a mopar build on YouTube, they liked it. Was hoping someone here was racing with it. Thanks for any info.

I am sure there will be plenty along to argue the point.........but to me there are better systems for similar money and Fitech tech support seems to be non existant

Can you name a few of the other systems a guy should be looking at, hopefully in the same price ballpark.

Holley Sniper.

People will undoubtedly accuse me of being biased because I work FOR Holley.........but that fact affords me a lot of opportunity. One of those being able to see the inner workings and comparisons of similar things from other companies. Sure many won't believe it, but that's fine. Fact is the Sniper blows away the Fitech in terms of function, ease of use and features for the same price. And we HAVE great tech support

Anybody who actually KNOWS me, also knows that I am not a "homer". Meaning I won't sit here and sing the praises of something just because I work for them, or whatever. If I think something else is better, I will say that or I will say nothing at all. If I brag on something, it is because in MY opinion, its a very good product. The Sniper fits there

Hi Monte, Is the limiting factor for big cubic inch motors still the CFM of the throttle bodies? What is the biggest CFM Holley makes for the sniper self learning? Thank you

Re: Fitech - 10/11/16 07:06 PM

It doesn't care about what kind of fuel you run. The 4 injector unit will support 650hp and the 8 will support 1250hp. It IS self learning and self tuning. Now is this the BEST unit for a race car? No, direct port is, but for what this does, which is replace a carb with bolt on EFI, it's as good as there is.

We also have the Terminator which is another TBI type system. Now it's twice the money of the Sniper......BUT, it comes with an HP ECU, which means later if you wanted to go to direct port, you are only rails and injectors away, as the HP ECU will do anything you want to do.

A TBI type system, regardless of who makes it, will ALWAYS have limits because the injectors are placed in the throttle body itself. You can only do so much with this type system. To me this is a street car, daily driver, or resto mod type system. You want to make POWER, you need direct port

Just installed FItech on my grandpa's bone stock 65 sport fury, 383. So far it's been great and the install was very straightforward. We did not use their fuel pump canister thing because it looks like ass. Used an external Walbro pump

I did an install of a Holley terminator kit on a BBC based motor home for the city of Milwaukee police department. They were having problems for years with the governed/manual choke Holley 4 bbl. Not many cops on the force that ever had to use a manual choke. This is a stock tall deck 427.
The thing runs like a new vehicle. warm restarts, cold starts, idle quality, all flawless with minimal input from me as a tuner. They are very pleased with it, and I must say I very impressed with the outcome of the install and minimal time it took to get the thing "Good as new."
Can't say enough about the Holley stuff.

Is the 8 injector version out yet, also what is pricing for that version? I have looked but can't find any information yet.

I have been running it since April, have a few thousand miles on it so far, including Drag Week. I have it controlling fuel and Spark via my MSD. Drivability is good, performance at the track aligns with my dialed in 950HP. Only running 11.6's NA and 11.0's with some small amount of chemical enhancement in average air. It was a "cheap" experiment for me, and my conclusion is: You get what you pay for.

The Good:
-It is simple to set up and use, carb->EFI in a couple hours
-It is self learning
-ECU and sensors incorporated into Throttle Body cleans up wiring
-Built in FPR
-Built in PWM for fuel pump
-a lot of functionality for price point (data logging, self learn, all sensors...)
-No more spilling fuel to make adjustments
-car is very consistent. 11.62-11.63 3/5 days on Drag week

The Bad:
-Tech support has recently been downgraded from somewhat useless, to completely useless
-Documentation is abysmal, (try reading their instructions for rotor phasing...haha)
-Lack of resolution in fuel and spark maps (they used to advertise 9x12 with Pro software, actually only 3x3 with the last breakpoint being boosted, when questioned about it, the Tech guy "didn't know about the 9x12...")
-Lack of support for advanced tuning, and little to no knowledge base on interweb
-Throttle body only flows ~830 cfm
-FPR only flows ~340LPH
-N2O spark retard originally advanced timing...had to argue with Tech after providing multiple datalogs. Finally sent me a corrected file.
-high failure rate with their fuel system (I have in-cell walbros)
-Data logging at ~4hz rate
-Software for PC leaves something to be desired

This car is very simple, and has been together a while. Adapting proper EFI was just not something I had the time to do last spring. The next car will be EFI from the start and I will use the Dominator system. For a driver, the FITech gets the job done.

On the Holley site it says the 8 injector unit will support 1200 HP. Ok, so where is that 8 injector unit ??? Can't find it on Holley's site nor on Summit's.

Monte I have a 426 hemi with a stage V mainfold with 2 600 edelbrocks with shaker cam is 112 lsa with 254 intake and 262 exhaust duration 14 vacuum at idle. Car is 3800# cuda 4speed 4:10 mostly street driven. Would the twin snipers be a good choice? or do you think it would be worth the extra time work and money to go direct port? Also have a marine intake available.
