It actually RUNS!

It actually RUNS! - 10/01/16 08:37 AM

I got my Dart fired up today and drove it up and down the driveway. It has been an 8 month project that at times I thought I wouldn't accomplish. Huge TTI headers caused most of the heartache.
Stock 400 with ported Edelbrock heads. .650 roller, Performer RPM, 930 DP. 727 rev. manual VB with TB, 8" converter and 3.23 posi. I know, I know, I have a 4.30 gear in the works. It scared the crap outta me in the driveway tonight laying about 80 ft. of posi and taking off like a bat outta hell! Revs like a motorcycle! Video and pics to follow. No, stock, low compression, external balance. That's why I'm so surprised that it actually runs! I had a bunch of parts laying around and whoalah!
I was worried about ALOT of things not really jiving together and so far, so good. I'll take it on a little cruise today after I get the hood on.

That's really cool. I was just wondering how some performance parts might wake up one of those big bore, low compression monsters.

popcorn

Interested to hear some builders opinions, I didn't think with a stock bottom end & low compression those parts would be very effective.

It runs strong! Revs to the moon and sounds great through the TTI 3" exhaust.

Little start up video. Sorry it's so dark. Idles at 1,100 with only about 5 inches of vacuum. Converter only goes to about 4,100 on the transbrake which is great!

Re: It actually RUNS! - 10/08/16 09:02 PM

This one.
Comp I installed it at 102. Need to get the carb to Thumper, but thinking of sending him a new 950. A buddy told me this was a custom deal flowed to 930 but NOT! tsk The converter goes to 4,100 as it sits but the carb isn't right so it feels to be a 12 sec. car at best. Just a Frankenstein thing I threw a bunch of parts at that I had sitting around from the Challenger. yellow I used an external balance B&M flexplate and was afraid that it might have a balance issue. It's smoother than baby shat! stirthepot Putting it together with these headers was a real challenge. The header to torsion bar on the pass. side is real close and the driv. side collector flange to tranny crossmember is super close. I thought it would rattle and that I would have to get it on a lift with a big a$$ pry bar but all the noise is out the back so I'm pretty happy about that. Still too loud though, wish it was quieter. eyes

Good on getting things running! The p to v has to be close on the 102 ISL no?

Re: It actually RUNS! - 10/08/16 09:19 PM

Not with this low compression thing. I stuck a .120 shim in the valve adjusted at 0 lash and rolled it over.
