Hyd. Lifter Pump Up ?

What exactly does Hydraulic lifter pump up mean, and what does it do.
This is in reference to lifters advertised as Anti Pump Up.

My understanding is when the lifters pump up past zero lash they prevent the valves from closing all the way. It can also reduce piston to valve clearance.
