On my car is havery the mandrel for my fuel pump to run off the crank I'm afraid I'll break the bolt if I try to turn the motor using the bolt cause it's small..thinking about fixing up a bump button mounted on the fire wall ..what you guys doing to turn the motor over when setting the lash..

I prefer turning the crank manually with the longest ratcheting breaker-bar I can fit in there. I suppose with the spark plugs out, bumping the ignition would be fairly accurate, but I'd hate to be off. Maybe that's just paranoia, but it's something I don't want to second-guess.

I use a remote button.. I just clip it on the relay..
it has about 3' long wires so I move it around side to
side... I use the open/closed method so its pretty easy..
I do one cyl at a time working from front to back... I
thought about mounting a button but I have enough crap in
the way already

My car has hard wired push buttons mounted on both sides of the car for bumping the motor over. Once you adjust the valves this way you never go back to rotating the motor over with a breaker bar.

Set the intake valve lash when the exhaust valve is beginning to open.

Set the exhaust valve lash when the intake valve is about halfway down on the closing side.

I put a bump button on the firewall, unreal how much time it saves.

Bump button on the firewall wired in the starter relay. Can't crank unless it's in park/neutral. I can do mine in 15 minutes.

Same here as I do mine by watching the valves as I tap it over. Ron
