SB VICTOR OTT - 09/07/16 10:00 PM

Ok guys it finally stopped raining long enough to get the car to the track. The headers and other little nickel and dime stuff wore us out but it's finally race ready sorry it took so long. Now we made 3 test hits one half pass the 2 others were on the throttle stop in Super Street mode. We had carberator issues with jetting and didn't have anything to fix the issues the motor was very Lean too much to even attempt a Full pass with no throttle stop. That being said we went 10.90 @ 142 for now the carberator is at the shop getting the trick of the week. We will be at the division 4 race in Shreveport La in 2 weeks we will report from the track.

Sweet. Nice looking car.
Any guess what you think it might run off the stop once sorted out?

Re: SB VICTOR OTT - 09/08/16 04:34 PM

Decent MPH on the stop for the first time out. I assume the car is close to the 2800# minimum?
Posted By: Jason B

Re: SB VICTOR OTT - 09/08/16 04:45 PM

haven't scaled it yet but yes its probably dead on 2800#. We were shooting for 145 on the stop so yes not bad for first time out. I am more than sure it will get there. We will see next weekend in Shreveport first divisional race with the car so I will report what happens.

Jason if you get a chance can you post your build again. Been following most of these posts as I would like to buy a set over the Winter. love the MPH and can't wait to see a full bore hit. Good-luck at your next race.

1 hot bad hot rod. You gotta love that small block horsepower

Re: SB VICTOR OTT - 09/08/16 09:03 PM

Yes sir no problem..

Ritter block 440" Victor heads, super Victor intake, Hughes performance rockers, 60mm cam, HP style 4150 carb done by David Cook(needs a Dominator) all of the other details I'd call Allen Sherman at Trumble Race Engines in Pasadena Texas he is the one who worked the magic on the block heads and intake. I really hope you get a set of the heads man we have to start buying this stuff or nobody will make it and we will really be screwed. I have personally talked to Edelebrock RD guy and its possible we will get a ready to go ported intake to match the heads with an option of 4150 top or dominator BUT... we have to buy the product and show interest!

Re: SB VICTOR OTT - 09/08/16 11:03 PM

The headers are 2 1/8" stepped to 2 1/4" I provided the drawing for the flanges to the guys at Stainlessheaders.com and they sold me a very nice setup for i think it was 1100.00 all stainless including merged collectors.

Thank you for the compliment it was a labor of love for sure it fought us from the word go I guess it was mad I neglected it for so long LOL but she happy now! The car has been a race car it entire life ans in the family a very long time.... MY PARENTS DATED IN IT and NO as far as I know i was not conceived in it..... I HOPE LOL

Re: SB VICTOR OTT, Update - 06/20/17 09:50 PM

Thought I would update what has been going on with this build. We changed cam to a Bullet and rockers to T and D push rod oil,and made changes to the ring pack and oiling. The heads and intake are the same, pretty much OOTB,and no changes to the car. We went to Baytown and made 3 laps. The first was a shake down and the last 2 were with the setup that was in the Grid, because we forgot the laptop, which shifted at 7200 and went on high speed chip at 7500. The starting line was done by the last one and it spun a little. I think we can get this thing in the mid to low 8.90s at 150 which is goood for a set of OOTB heads.

Re: SB VICTOR OTT, Update - 06/20/17 10:11 PM

Those two sheets are a bit puzzling.......

At 7200rpm, the "after" sheet shows roughly a 100hp improvement, while at the same time using over 50lbs/hr less fuel.

The fuel flow at the end of the "after" pull(7700) is less than what it is at the beginning of the "before" pull(5800).

Averages at the bottom of the page;

Before - 320.1 lbs/hr
After - 237.2 lbs/hr

Re: SB VICTOR OTT, Update - 06/20/17 10:20 PM

Curious, why the change in rockers? Just a change in spring pressure with the new cam requiring something a bit better? or did they break.

Re: SB VICTOR OTT, Update - 06/20/17 11:57 PM

Changed rockers because I've always had problems with ball and cup push rods so I thought I would try ball and ball push rod oiling for a change. I was told by the the engine builder that BSFC lb/hph is what he prefers. The car ran 9.23 @143 before the changes, so it's heading in right direction. My son and Brett Miller have been talking about this build and what he thought it needs and about what the heads and intake need to get this thing to the next level

Were both tests done with the same carb and same fuel?

Are you saying your engine builder (and dyno operator?) is trying to tune from the BSFC, instead of the air-fuel ratio?

If so, somebody should tell him to Google "you can't tune using BSFC" to help him understand why that's a flawed approach.

That is totally gorgeous and exactly the car/combo I'd want if I was to ever get back into racing over here, slay those BB Mopar boys just like I did in the old days.

And so does Pettis and EVERY carb on his dyno needs more fuel across the board when in the car and at the track making passes. Afr's to me are the base of tuning then salt to taste from there........That car is a complete work of art............ bow beer

Re: SB VICTOR OTT, Update - 06/23/17 10:24 PM

The point I want to make is that the Victor head is worth the investment. They made 1.7 hp/cu in, which on a 408/416 is around 700 hp. And the best part is you can bolt them on and go. All that was done to ours was a valve job and clean up the tool marks. Everything is available now to complete the build. I admit it's not cheap, but it's a lot more affordable than you think.
